Defensive coordinator candidates

From O'Halloran's article on the DC search:

A source said Bradley has not made a job offer to any of the candidates

So we didn't necessarily lose out to Phily on Schwartz since we never offered him the job. He also mentions that the expectation is that we promote Wash to DC. http://jacksonville.com/opinion/blog/544...-defensive

Quote:I don't see an issue with promoting a guy on the rise, especially when the coach he'd be working for has the experience as a coordinator. Mike Smith wasn't a DC prior to taking over the Jags defense when Del Rio hired him. That worked out fine.

The fact that Kiffin is actually involved in this process is something I find particularly interesting. It shows me that Gus is serious about getting the right guy.
So he wasn't serious before?

Now it makes sense, I kind of forgot about Wash. It's pretty obvious Gus is just doing his due diligence and will eventually promote Wash. I'd expect Gus to have a pretty strong grip on the defense next year and probably calling the plays.

I don't have a problem with that. If the D sucks next year with him in charge then it confirms Gus isn't a good coach and we can find a new HC. If the D improves a lot then we can give him a new contract.

Just promoting another yes man in Wash.... Brilliant.

The problem is it's not only broken but unrepairable.

He does not want to do that because if his defense sucks again he can't use an escape goat

Bingo. You have to spell it out to FBT for him to understand.

I am still all in for Morris.  Though not interviewed and no signs saying he would be.

Because it's a name he recognizes.

"defense was straight up abysmal. How can we fix it? I know... I'll hire the DLine guy who will just run what I tell him! Fixed it! Championship!"

Well considering he was put in charge of the run game defense and our run defense was by far and away our best part of our defense last year maybe a promotion is warranted..

Wrong like usual. 49ers defense played decent with a bunch of nobody's.

If wash gets the promotion or if Gus calls the defense himself, then the accountability is 100% on Gus.

Somewhat better than if Schwartz got hired and turned the defense around and bought Gus an extension.

I'd rather Gus put it all on the table and either get us in the right place or fail and get the axe next season.
