He will be learning on the field like any other rookie.  Film wont teach the speed of the Nfl.   Nor will on the side lines.   I will never understand the sit players thing.  I know in his case was injured and no choice.  Just the whole concept makes no sense.  If a player is good.  Will develop into it.   If is not.  Don't matter if watch from the sidelines for 3 years straight.   Won't learn much like playing it.   

 

So Fowler I expect sacks mid-end season.   I just hope we grab two vets so he can learn.   He is not ready for the pressure himself.  And shouldn't be on his shoulders.  Last thing we want is for a re-injury due to too much pressure on the young lad.

I wouldn't put a number to be able to quantify success. If he's disrupting, penetrating, and flushing the pocket to force incompletions/turnovers I'd take that.

That's the only fair way to treat him.  Zero expectations.

 

Let him give what he gives.

I think this is the smartest thing to say of him. Have no unrealistic expectation. Instead, let him determine what he will do. I 'hope' to see him at least make it through a whole NFL practice without injury. I 'hope' he will produce at a level commensurate for a rookie at his draft level. I'm not going to set any particular numbers on him just yet though. He is in control of how he will do as a Jaguar.

Personally, Fowler getting sacks would be a bonus to me. As long as he can get in the backfield and disrupt the QB, he'd be a success..

I think Fowler's impact can be similar to Jabaal Sheard in New England. Their fans love him and think he's their best D-Line player.

Sheard is moved all over their D-Line and and is very versatile and plays with motor. A poster there called him Michael Bennett 2.0. I think the way Fowler will be used here will be very similar to Sheard, especially the way Dave was talking about him last week. He mentioned Fowler could be moved around and play standing up, at left end, right end, 3T in passing situations. Sounds very similar to how Seattle uses Bennett. Also, Fowler's combine results and Sheard's pro day are almost identical, Fowler is just faster.

Also extremely similar physical measurables. Sheard is 6'3'' 264lbs with 33 1/2 inch arms. Fowler is 6'3'' 261lbs with 33 3/4 inch arms. Fowler is probably even more versatile because he can legitimately play linebacker and has the movement skills to do it. Fowler was also better at using his hands than Sheard coming out of college.

 

Overall I think Fowler can be the player Sheard is now immediately with the added bonus that he can be put at OTTO and let a guy like Olivier Vernon start at LEO to accommodate more talent and pass rushers on the defense without having to worry about sitting one of them.

 

Good post. Fowler has indeed shown a lot of versatility in college. I can see him in a similar role. It may not lead to 10 sacks a season, but maybe he turns into a player whose value on the field is far greater than the stats he produces.
