Todd Wash Promoted to Defensive Coordinator

Just got the transcript for the Bradley/ Schwartz interview.

*Picked up after a long converstaion

Gus: Mr Schwartz I think you would be a great asset to our ball club.  Just one important question.  What is your favorite Flavor of Ice Cream?

Schwartz: I am lactose intolerant.

Gus:  Get Out!!!!

I don't believe in Gus Bradley.  That being said I really hope he proves me wrong.  As many have said, probably just a puppet.

This is big news. Waiting for it to hit the sports center ticker.

hahahaha

Gus is pretty much fired. He probably got hired because he was good at making up acronyms that do not mean diddly squat

Not nearly as big as who the Bills hired to be their special teams coordinator.

I think it was a smart move by Head Coach Gus Bradley.  It is his trusted friend whom has severed under him well in many places and if Gus does get fired at least he can give his buddy one year experience (and the chance to prove himself at a higher level).  If things work out for Gus why not have a person he trusts the most at the helm of his defense.

The question is it best for the team, that is yet to be determined he's a great DL coach and that might turn into a great DC but who will now run the DL?

Nobody will know until the the end of this year if it was a good decision by Gus Bradley because this is Todd Wash's first DC job.

I was unaware that Danny Crossman was such a story. I mean, is he kind of a big deal?

What are you talking about? Their new special teams coach is Kathryn Smith.

Ironically,  Dan Crossman has had a long time close football relationship with Doug Marrone.  If Marrone ever becomes an NFL HC again on a non interim basis,   I think there's a good chance he will try to hire Crossman as his Special Teams Coordinator.    That's the path that happened when Jim Schwartz let Crossman out of his contract with the Lions in 2013,  in order for Crossman to join Marrone in Buffalo.  As it turned out,  all 3 of them coached together in 2014.

Quote:The other poster was still wrong. Fewer than 15 games featured good run defense.

And to be fair, Telvin and Poz (and even Cyprien) were much bigger factors in the run defense than the DL was. Doug Martin got all of those yards when Poz was out and the run defense suffered the last two games when Telvin was out.

I echo some other posters here. What is Gus Bradley's plan for the DL coach job?

In other words, we need to draft backup linebackers.

Quote:One top tier FA pass rusher plus healthy Marks/Fowler plus an upgrade at FS and Babich may have looked decent.

The Jags had two starters miss most of the season in Marks and Fowler (assuming Fowler would have been a starter). But that's par for the course. Next year it might be Poz and Odrick. Counting on a near perfect roster to run your scheme is like buying a lottery ticket.

The Jags had one of their best games on defense when Poz was injured in week 14. And even a good backup to Telvin is going to be a huge downgrade.

EDIT: but my point was that Wash wasn't the main factor in the improvement in the run defense.

We certainly played better on defense than most people give us credit for at some points in the season. It was too little, too late.

The only thing sadder than this tired old joke is the desperation with which you tell it.

Really, really embarrassing.

I don't know if Wash will be a good D coordinator. Very likely, he will be gone at by this time next year.

That said, every time I have heard him interviewed I have come away impressed, and with the distinct impression that he sounds like an NFL head coach. Fwiw

I agree with this. He's coaching material in terms of leadership, but I question his X's and O's like Bradley. Time will tell, but overall we just need a lot more talent up front.

The Jaguars Defense (at least stat wise) as been one of the worst in Franchise history for the last 3 years under Defensive Guru HC Gus Bradley.

This season the team finished 24th in Defense (375 Yards/G), 29th against the Pass (268.2 Yards/G),  they allowed 10 40+ plays, 54 20+, and QBs had on average 97.2 QBR against them.
