Quote:FSU fans, what are your observations from seeing Ramsey play? Do you think he is better as a FS or CB? Can you see him as a good fit in Jacksonville based on his skill set?
Not really an FSU fan but know a little about Ramsey

A top athlete that is physical. A get in your face "bad boy". The only knock I have against him is he isn't a ball hawk imo, doesn't get many int's.

I would love for the Jags to draft him but still hope they can sign a ball hawk free safety in FA. This is the reason I have been bringing up Reggie Nelson

I wonder if the lack of interceptions has anything to do with quarterbacks throwing away from him.

Been asking myself that same question as the board seems to really like him as a free safety

Maybe an FSU fan can help with this question?

LOL That is why I asked FSU fans for their opinions. They are the guys who watch him play every week.

Rob Rang - analyst cbs.sports:

Quote:As a true sophomore in 2014, he led the Seminoles with 14 passes defended and finished second on the team with 9.5 tackles for loss, adding 79 tackles, three sacks and two interceptions. Ramsey occasionally lined up as Florida State's starting free safety in 2014, also moving inside as the "big" nickel defender and showing his versatility as a cornerback and hybrid safety/linebacker.

Interesting. That description looks like free safety is not his natural position. Did he usually line up at cornerback?

Sounds like he might be best suited as a slot corner for the Jags

Can he kick extra points?

Aaron Colvin has that job.

True

But given the choice between Ramsey and Colvin I would choose Ramsey

There were also two other threads on this very forum on the guy.

Do a little homework next time. I found those links in 3 seconds.

I am a big Jalen Ramsey fan.  You can look back at my past posts and I loved him as the pick when I thought we were picking later on in the draft.  But with a top 5 pick?  No way.  There is not a defensive back in this class worthy of a top 5 pick.  Ramsey could be a starting LCB for most teams, but we all know his best position is safety.  Top 5 for safety is hitting Sean Taylor and Eric Turner territory.  As much as I love Ramsey, he is not on that level.  I'll start with his negatives. BALL SKILLS!!!!! His ball skills are absolutely deplorable.  I can't remember all the times I saw him beat the coverage, have two hands on the ball, and completely blow the catch.  It seemed like almost every game.  There's a reason he only has 3 interceptions in 3 years.  The guy just can't catch.  As a corner, he always allowed early separation and performed quite poorly against crossing routes.  The positives are off the charts though.  He has prototypical size.  He's a dominant athlete.  He's great against the run, he's a great tackler, he great getting off blocks, he has off-the-charts awareness, off-the-charts vision and instincts.  I just wouldn't take a safety that high.

Same thing with Hargreaves.  He's a fluid, smooth, cover corner.  However, his weaknesses are too hard to overlook to take him in the top 5.  I won't say his size is a weakness, but it is below what teams would prefer.  He is short, narrow, and lacks bulk.  His fans like to think he will run a 4.3 at the combine, but let's be real he is not that fast.  He doesn't have the speed to make up for mistakes underneath.  He is a terrible tackler, may even be one of the worse out of this defensive back class.  He has trouble coming off blocks.  His 16.5 yards allowed per completion is one of the worst in the nation.  He can be eaten alive sometimes by double moves.

This is what I never get with the mindset regarding the draft.

OH NO YOU CAN'T DRAFT A DB THAT HIGH BECAUSE ONLY SO-N-SO AND WHAT'S-HIS-NAME HAVE BEEN DRAFTED IN THE TOP FIVE.

Okay, let's draft an offensive tackle instead. OL is the type of position you draft high in the first round...

Oh hello Luke Joeckel. So glad to have you. Lucky we didn't spend our pick on a stupid DB (who is probably 3 times the player that you are, but Sean Taylor and such...)

Well, we could've had Ziggy instead of Luke, buuuuut...

I assume you were a fan of the Jaguars picking a punter in the 3rd or the Raiders picking a kicker in the 1st. Anger could turn out to be the best punter in the league; that doesn't mean only a complete idiot would make that pick. lolol To me, Joeckel was not a top 5 pick. So why in the heck would I take him there? Would I have taken Joe Thomas with a top 5 pick? Absolutely. His importance as a left tackle only magnifies the importance of the pick. Would I take Ramsey with a top 5 pick? No, because I don't think he is a top 5 talent. Would I take a SAFETY who I think is not a top 5 talent with #5? Absolutely not.

Exactly, I wanted Ziggy because I thought he was a top 5 talent in the draft, not because he's a defensive end. The point is not to use a top 5 pick on a player that isn't worth it. Ex. Joeckel

I wanted Ziggy because I thought it was a perfect fit. We have a coach that preaches improvement, getting better every day, developing your skills. Ziggy was a guy who had tons of athletic ability but is raw with little experience. I thought with our staff's mindset that it made perfect sense to take a guy like Ziggy and develop him into a top pass rusher.

I would say he is solid in coverage as a corner. Definitely gets beat here and there. He has stone hands for sure. He should have had probably five or six INTs this year, but due to stone hands he ended up with a goose egg.

He's definitely a better fit as a safety in the league.
