Gus Bradley gets 1 year extension

Quote:What am I missing? Were they not competitive?
They were, and that had previously been communicated to be the goal in year 3 of this thing.  Year 4 was always expected to be the season where the team not only had to be competitive, but they had to be in contention for a playoff spot at a minimum, and the division title if possible.  That's certainly still a possibility.

We saw notable improvement with the offense after replacing the coordinator.  If the defense makes a similar jump and we see it become even a middle of the pack defense statistically, that should be good enough in 2016 to achieve what they've been indicating would be the target next year.

Never argue with idiots. They drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.

Quote:Dave gets a shot at a 2nd coaching hire if the continually improving talent doesn't lead better results on the field, and it can be attributed back to the coaching.

If the team under-performs and we see the kind of poor execution in 2016 that we saw this year, I don't know if Caldwell could actually survive that.

This off season is critical for the team, the coach, AND the GM.  I think they recognize this, and that this was one of the reasons Bradley and his staff were given the extensions.  At the end of the process, if the team makes the turn most hope it will in 2016, they extensions will actually be worth it.  If the team doesn't make that turn, the extensions will be completely meaningless.
It all kinda seems like they planned for it to go this way.

All this money, a FA market sure to be flooded....

another early draft selection for a play maker....

2016 is the year of "results"

Last years team wasn't competitive.

Because you say so?  Sorry, but that's not good enough.

Ok then, what about;

A 5-11 record

A top 5 draft choice

One of the worst defenses in the NFL

Being routinely destroyed by people like Brian Hoyer

Poor clock management

Inability to adjust at halftime

Would any of those work?

The team was more competitive than it was in 2013 or 2014.  The offense was light years better, and established multiple new franchise records.  The defense struggled to get off the field and lacked any sort of pass rush.  Yet we were still in all but probably 2 or 3 games all year long.

To say there was an improvement and the team was actually competitive this year ignores reality, but hey, nobody is expecting much more from you.

The coaching was terrible last year. A lot of us didn't need a new DC to have a press conference to start saying that...

A lot of us were saying this before the company line changed...

If you think we were in all but two or three games, you are going by nothing but the ending score. Not surprised to see the guy that steals Gus Bradley's underwear try to cover that up.

Bortles and the Allens improved. Everything else on the offense sucks. If we didn't have Telvin Smith you could probably say everything else sucked too.

Quote:Overreaction?   We are on year 4 of the 5 year plan that they said was three years to compete.  When I objectively rewatched some of the games from this year it is amazing we won 5 games.  Oh but we were so close in many of the games.  No we really weren't close.  The New England game was more of the blue print for the 2015 expectations.

The game plans are poor and the execution is awful.  There are no adjustments made on game day and it all points back to Gus.  Hey let me get mellow and go with the flow.
I'm pretty sure the offense had pretty much their best year in the last 10 years.. maybe there was 1 better yea......they already stated they are concentrating hard on defensive this year... no patience

Absolutely.  There must be results.  Meaning, wins.

If he can't do for the defensive talent as he has for the offense, and if it was a mistake to have extended Gus...

...then he's absolutely correct about Caldwell.  The success and failure of this team is equally on his shoulders as it is Gus.  Gus is his guy, after all.

Isn't the ending score what matters? Playing by your rules, this couldve been a 7 win team. But then again, I'm talking to someone fantasizing about the head coaches underwear.

2016 will answer everything, its play better or go home for a few guys.

Right. Look at the Tampa game and tell me we are a competitive team.

Correct me if I am wrong, but didn't we have the lead in that game in the 3rd quarter?

Worst to 1st.  Curse Reversed!

I think we are competitive, but not as competitive as we should be at this point in the process.

I see an overall lack of talent as still being the biggest challenge (of many challenges) for this team.

Too many one on ones we aren't winning.  The players who can, they stand out.  It is why the team as a whole doesn't stand out.

It's one thing to be dumbfounded by others, but it's quite another to be dumbfounded by your very own self.

I survived the Gus Bradley Error.

We did shortly, but also gave half of their team career days. Also, we scored a garbage time TD, which was also my point.
