The most important question is, will he be successful?

 

Given his defensive picks so far, I'm not so sure.  I'll let him prove it before I'll endorse it or expect it to happen.

 

For that, we'll have to wait and see - and I'm not so optimistic.  The defensive talent fell off while he was in Atlanta, and he bet the farm (and arguably won) on Julio Jones.

 

It could be he's got no problem with spotting talent at WR, but a blind spot for defense.  We'll see.

All kind of defeat the idea that Dave hasn't focused on defense. And that's not counting his stop-gap signings of Geno Hayes and Alan Ball. :confused:

All of them were pretty much signed as stop gaps/prove it contracts. Marks and Miller proved it. The ones who didn't were cut pretty quick. I don't think Brown will be around much longer either.

 

None of them were signed to Thomas, or Odrick type deals.

Legit core re: passing game.  We're still deficient in the running game and OL.  IMO, we're relying too much on it and that's why Bortles presses, leading to mistakes.

Agreed. We still need some help on the OL and the running game must be better next season. Yeldon isn't the issue though.

Again, I agree.

 

We can say we want to throw out the first 2 season's record, I guess that's fine, whatever. But this past season was gift wrapped for us and they could only scrape up 5 wins. There's absolutely no more excuses this 4th year. It's time to, just win baby.

 

I still think Caldwell deserves a shot at a 2nd head coach hire, if/when Gus gets fired. Maybe it's just my opinion though.

While they may have rolled the dice on him a bit -- they certainly knew what they were getting in other guys like Sergio Brown. Lower upside but possibly a mild upgrade. Then you have aging guys like Bryant and Clemons who I see as the true stop-gaps. A patch job for a year or two.

Nah your definition is more accurate,stop gap applies to Bryant and Clemons rather than the other guys. The rest were prove it types. Basically what I was trying to say is that guys on the list weren't major investments for the defense.

Khan saved football in Jacksonville, I much rather a owner that lets the process play out then one that fires coaches every 1 or 2 years like Clev and TB, Gus is Khan's 2nd coach and the team did improve last year, we have a franchise QB and lot of good young offensive players and some on defense. If Dave fix the defense this team will def be on the rise.

I can't really take this  ^ seriously, but I'll try.  

 

I'm not gonna try to analyze the Browns roster needs, but I do know the Jags stand to have about three times the cap space that they do  - and they don't need a "defense" and an "o-line."  

Jags need a FS, a quality corner, a DE and a C/G depending on where AJ Cann plays next year.

 

I think Yeldon will be fine running behind Linder, Parnell and a better center next year.
