Newton could use a little more modesty and dignity

Quote:He is a pretty good player for being "The Worst Draft pick of All Time".

http://m.bleacherreport.com/articles/694...-pick-ever

I read that article about a month ago. To be fair I had my doubts about Cam coming out of college (just like I have with almost every player), but would never call him the worst draft pick ever before playing his first down in the league. And this is why is also stupid to give draft grades a day after the draft. You never know how things will work out. I still remember our 2012 draft class with Wilson, Wagner and Irvin getting an "F" grade from some mediots. Like Wilson said after winning the Super Bowl, maybe they mean F as Fantastic. Smile

On a personal basis, he just rubs me the wrong way.  I think he's really phony.

He is a fantastic player.

It's not hard to figure out why Cam would get on a lot of peoples nerves.  He's a little bit over the top at times, but for the most part I think he does it because he's genuinely having a good time out there.  He doesn't seem to be a jerk and he gives back to the community.  He likes the kids and does a lot of things for the special needs.  What more can you ask for?  There are a lot of other guys in the NFL that deserve to be hated.

Peyton Manning left the country to go get surgery that wasn't allowed here and who knows what else happened while he was there....nobody questioned that.  Cam smiles and has fun and somehow he's a horrible human being.

Tell us about how much time you've spent with him on a "personal basis" to feel that way.

Quite a bit. We just signed a deal with his foundation for next year. The guy is as real as they come with his time and his charity work.

In fact.....Cam is the complete opposite of phony. He is who he truly is on the field. He keep it totally real.

Good lord. I don't understand all this hate for the guy. You act like he's Manziel mixed with Greg Hardy.
IT WAS ALWAYS THE JAGS

Seems like people are just grasping at straws for reasons to hate him now.

I love it and hope he gets 10 touchdowns in the Super Bowl.

I can't speak for anyone else, and I don't "hate" the guy. He just annoys me. Just my personality, I guess.  I prefer the guys that display a bit more humility than hype on the field.  Most of my favorite players as a kid were guys that did something amazing (which Cam also does)  and then turned for the sideline or sprinted for first base without any celebration save maybe a subtle clenched fist.  (which he doesn't do)

That said - I had to reconcile players with giant egos and a penchant for celebratory antics that happened to play for my favorite teams eventually. So - of course Newton's clowning about after first downs, TDs etc would be easier for me to swallow if I were a panthers fan. It would still rub me the wrong way, but, I'm from a different era.  One that respected humility a bit more. Today's sporting world and it's myriad of television networks wants hype and controversy at every turn - so Newton is only doing what is currently most advantageous.

I'm not mad at him. I just find his "bit" classless.

"Hey you kids! Turn down that rock and roll!"

Quote:"Hey you kids! Turn down that rock and roll!"
Yeah.  Pretty much. (Except that I actually play rock n roll for a living.  :teehee: )

Put it this way - I grew up loving both Barry Sanders and Deion Sanders but I preferred one of their demeanors to the other.

Now, get off my lawn and stop smokin' yer wacky weeds behind my tool shed dagnabbit.

See: Going for it on 4th down, with a little over a minute remaining in the game, just so the Jags could score 50 on the Colts, and increase their lead to 35... :teehee: :teehee:

I'm still kinda miffed we didn't do an on sides kick afterwards!

Worst to 1st.  Curse Reversed!

Yep.

Cam has proven me wrong, as well as many people. I thought he was gonna fizzle out much like Vince Young did.

If I knew I was proving people wrong, I'd gloat too. His celebrations can go on too long at times, but it's all in good fun. Overall, he has matured in comparison to how he was a couple years ago.

I'm no Panthers fan, but I quite like Cam. He's having one seriously good year and enjoying it. Good on him.

Although, I want the Bronco's to win the SB.

80% of what I talk about is nonesense.. the other 25% is made up statistics...

You don't even know him personally. I've met Cam in person. He is great!!

Lol,when he says on a personal basis...that's now what he means.

It surprises me that so many people are surprised that Cam can get on peoples nerves.  He carries on and dances a bit more to peoples likings.  It's a personal preference.  It's really not hurting anything in the long run.  What people really should question is why the Charlotte newspaper continues to publish opponents fans letters to the editor about Cam's actions.  The lady that said her daughter was offended by Cam's dancing so she had her look at the scantily clad cheerleaders and mascot made me laugh the most.
