Quote:Really hope he doesn't make it to the Texans pick.

He won't. The current projection is Top 10 and the first quarterback selected.

Ross Martin K  - Duke  - Projected 7th round or UDFA

 - just booted a 50 and 55 yarder back to back at practice  - looking pretty calm and collected with a host of scouts gathered around.

If they can get him undrafted... might be an upgrade.

We need to draft the best kicker available. Our experiment with an undrafted free agent was a total failure.

I think wasting any pick higher than a 7th on a kicker is a bad idea.  At least - when you have so many holes to fill on defense.

The Jags don't have the luxury of wasting a mid-round pick on a kicker.

Undrafted kickers aren't an "experiment." They are commonplace.

Quote:Undrafted Placekickers, NFL games

John Carney, 307 games
Adam Vinatieri, 284 games (active)
Norm Johnson, 273 games
Lou Groza, 268 games
Jan Stenerud, 263 games
Nick Lowery, 260 games
Pat Leahy, 250 games
Al Del Greco, 248 games
Ryan Longwell, 240 games
David Akers, 237 games (active)
Phil Dawson, 237 games (active)
Olindo Mare, 235 games
Steve Christie, 229 games
Undrafted Punters, NFL games
Jeff Feagles, 352 games
Sean Landeta, 284 games
Matt Turk, 244 games
Bryan Barker, 238 games

And this list is almost two years old. It also includes a few punters, but the point remains.

Amazing still that we managed to be "that team" to draft a punter in the 3rd and still get one that's just average at that.  Banana

NYC, it was an experiment for us when we signed an undrafted kicker.

Yes, we have holes on defense, but they will be tackled (pun intended) in the early rounds.

Gus should get excited about a FG after watching Jason Myers last year. How long was it?

I, too, am wondering how long Duke K Ross Martin's 54-yard FG was.

Myers was actually just fine in FG percentage (13th in league I believe)

It was the missed extra points and the fact he missed two FGs in one game early on that was so frustrating.

His FG kicking was pretty good after the bye.

Still - I posted the bit about Martin for a reason. If they can sign him undrafted - that's good camp competition.

32 yards, maybe.

That's a good guess, but no way to know for certain.
