Jalen Ramsey

2015: Kurt Coleman, 2nd in the league in interceptions with 7|Darian Stewart, a nobody

You're welcome to continue being dismissive but those are some pretty big names. The game has evolved quite a bit since 2008. A great free safety is not a luxury.
Now list who was on the Front 7 and get back to me. All those teams had excellent pass rushers. All of them. You don't need a special FS to win. You do need pass rushers. Also if picked Ramsey would have been picked higher than anyone on that list.

I dont care what position we take I just want the best player. Dont pick a player just because of his position. If they feel Ramsey will be the best player take him, if they feel its Jack you take him etc.

Obviously having a good front 7 helps. Don't act like I'm saying it doesn't. But having a great free safety is becoming a position that you need to have a great player that capitalizes in a big way when that pass rush hits home. Those names are a huge indicator of that, and how the game is evolving that way.

And especially in Jacksonville's case where the scheme they're trying to replicate quite clearly requires great safety play, it'll be silly for Jacksonville to pass on someone with potential like Ramsey.

EDIT: And for the record, the 2006 Colts weren't really that great at rushing the passer. They did have an all-star secondary and Peyton Manning though, I suppose that more than made up for it

Obviously the first pick needs to be a defensive player.

None of those safties were drafted in the top 5. It just feels way too high to be picking a safety, especially a player that played more nickel and boundary than safety.

Why does anyone care about this? If Ramsey is still being called a top 5 talent three months from now, he is not a reach.

A kicker could be a top 5 talent, doesn't mean he should be drafted in the top 5.

We'll see. The safety position is important for the defensive scheme the Jaguars are trying to run.

You are taking my point too far. I have always said the #5 pick needs to be a defensive player.

I go back and forth on whether Ramsey would do well as a FS in our role. I wonder if it would make sense to sign a FA FS like Gipson and Weddle and then still draft Ramsey to play CB.

Ramsey the size and length to be the perfect CB in Gus' scheme. I've watched clips of Ramsey he seems to really excel when pressing. We could also move him around in Nickel sets like FSU did. Just seems to me he plays better when near the LOS, and then our FA FS could focus on the centerfielder role.

A pass rush of say Fowler, Vernon, Odrik, Marks, and our 2nd rounder with a secondary of Ramsey, House, Gipson, Cyp/Sample, and Colvin could do wonders for our D especially on 3rd down.

Signing Gipson or Weddle in free agency would increase the probability of picking a pass rusher at 5 instead of a defensive back. I would only draft a CB in the first round if we trade down.

Nah, draft BAP.

How is it wrong? Laremy Tunsil will most likely be a Titan or Charger. Name one other offensive player who is better than the best defensive player.

Does he just get his hands on the football or force turnovers? I want to see interceptions.
