Newton could use a little more modesty and dignity

Hope I didn't offend you.  I mean...   He's really cute.

Seriously, though  -   Relax. He's in the public eye by choice and he says and does some flamboyant things. By choice. Not everyone is going to like it - so you should ease up a bit on taking it personally and trying to defend him so much.

have to wonder what the REAL reason is why guys don't like how Cam plays/acts is.

Favre's "little-boy-background-football" type of playing was lauded by everyone as being just a guy havin' fun.

Brady's smashing his helmet into his linemen and yelling at refs every game is noted as him being "fiery" and a "leader mentality"

I think we know the answer.....

Not offend at all. Don't jump on that bandwagon that I'm over-defending him. There are enough of those posters on here. I stated my position very clearly to the two posts that I considered unreasonable hate. My feelings of those haven't changed. But let's all ease up acting like I'm crying every time someone bashes him. That's getting more played out than Cam passing out footballs to kids.

So misunderstood.

Nobody hated Brett Favre or talked trash about him?  Nobody talked trash about him when the cell phone pictures about him came out?  He hasn't faded into a bit of obscurity since then, huh?

Nobody calls Tom Brady a baby?  There were players that called him that last week from the Broncos!

Again, people are trying to blow this whole race thing out of proportion when people say they think he goes a bit over the top with his celebrations. Get over it.  Keep reaching.

I sure hope you're not about to say "race".

I'm not saying racism doesn't exist. It does. But, I don't think it exists as much as those who are calling it.

Not once did I see anyone say they they didn't like his actions because he is an African-American. Heck, I don't think anyone said they "hate" Cam. Seems he just rubs a handful of people the wrong way. I can understand why. I'm kinda old school as well and think it's gone a tad overboard and forced. But if he wins the SB... Congrats to him, he earned it.

What are you talking about?  Don't back pedal now and say you aren't.  Go read your posts.  You are THAT GUY defending him.  If you are going to be a fan boy, at least own it.  If it were Bortles and I were on a Carolina Panthers website I would.

It exists more to those who want to push it to the for front because its easier to use that as an excuse than to just say hey, they simply don't like what he's doing.  It's really sad and pathetic that is the easiest way to dismiss things now a days.  It happens all too often.

I like Cam, I like the way he dances, I like when he smiles, I like when he gives footballs to kids....and guess what, I'm WHITE!

Unfortunately for Cam, the powers-that-be do not, uhhhhhh, like the way that he plays the game from the QB position. Yeah, that's it!!

Agreed,

Btw, I like all those things too. And, last time I checked, I was white as well.

Where are all these qbs that just run off the field after a TD?

I absolutely love it when he cries at press conferences.  And wears spanx.

So hawt.

I kid.

Sorry - I just think this whole thing is funny.  I'm more of a fan of the guy than a "hater" by all means. I just don't care for his schtick - cause I'm a little bit old school.  But, hey - flamboyant quarterbacks in women's clothing have been around for a long, long time.

You want to know whats great about Joe Namath, there were TONS of people that hated him when he played for all the things he did off the field.  Absolutely loathed the guy.  Were they racists?

Quote:Cam's been doing it for 5 years now. No one in the media said anything about it until they started winning. He's always done it and no one ever thought it was self-severing before. And he only has to "fight" with defenders because they're purposefully trying to keep the ball away from him. Hell...when I was at the game in New Orleans the ref wouldn't give Cam the ball.. He tossed it to the ballboy. Cam ran over to get the ball from him and even the ballboy tried to keep it from him. However, the 5'1" 235lb 20 year old was no match.

I know Cam and your team "fight" with defenders to get the ball back because the other isn't giving them it, however, my point was that they're the only team that seems to do that on a regular basis. It also just happens to coincide with them being the only team that gets a lot of media attention for giving away footballs. Maybe I'm just jaded, but I feel that media attention plays into it a bit. Also I don't recall Cam doing it after every touchdown in the past like he does now, but I'll give you the benefit of the doubt since you're a fan of the team.

I'm going to assume one of those two posters are me. I don't hate Cam Newton, he's a great football player and I'm sure he's a nice guy, but again I've just grown tired of seeing him everywhere in the exact same vein as Watt.

I guess you don't watch much football?

Seriously, though. I'm sure Blake would totally do the macarena and the hokey-pokey after he scrambles for a 7 yard first down like Cam does if he weren't always down by 3 touchdowns and in hurry-up. AMIRITE?

No it's definitely after every touchdown. In the first few years it was only on his rushing TDs. Last year (when we were terrible most of the season) it was ALL TDs. There was a funny moment when he gave Philly Brown's first career TD away to a kid and Philly's reaction was hilarious.

The Panthers never get positive national press. All the way through the AZ game the majority of the press was picking against us. I guess since it's the two weeks between the SB you're going to be seeing a ton of the Cam stuff.

As I'm sitting here typing this Sportscenter is talking about the race comments. Yep...it's going to be a long 10 days listening to everyone talk about this crap.

Welcome to the world of being a small market team, ha. Once this season passes, assuming you guys continue to good, you'll be talked about positively. Unless it's a major market, it usually takes a season or two of success until teams actually start being considered legitimate.

Wow...Mississippi clung to the 80's way longer than the rest of the country!!
What in the Wide Wide World of Sports is agoin' on here???
