Newton could use a little more modesty and dignity

Quote:Welcome to the world of being a small market team, ha. Once this season passes, assuming you guys continue to good, you'll be talked about positively. Unless it's a major market, it usually takes a season or two of success until teams actually start being considered legitimate. This is why I don't mind seeing the Jags do well and feel like there's no rivalry between us. We share the small market thing, and the no respect (as well as many years of lack of success). I think if the Panthers win they'll end up being the "[BLEEP]" or "bad boys" of the NFL. I think people will continue to hate them for the way they play and celebrate. I guess hate is better than irrelevancy like we always have been. We show less advertisements to registered users. Accounts are free; join today! Quote:It exists more to those who want to push it to the for front [sic] because its easier to use that as an excuse than to just say hey, they simply don't like what he's doing. It's really sad and pathetic that is the easiest way to dismiss things now a days. It happens all too often.Wait a minute. This is a country that, within the lifetime of a 50 year old person, had LAWS specifically governing
Were the results of those all encompassing abhorrent policies not so tragic for so many generations of people, the reflexive dismissal of the mere possibility of racial animus would be laughable. People tend to think that because there was a civil rights era in the 1960s, all bigotry somehow ended. But if you asked these same people if the passage of the 55 mph speed limit in the 1970s actually stopped people from speeding who were inclined to do so, you'd get a resounding no. For that matter, they would also acknowledge that gun control laws would not deter the criminally inclined from obtaining a firearm, and that laws against murder do not actually stop the murderous, despite tangible penalties for violating each of those norms. People may not know the exact full range of possible sanctions, but they know if caught speeding, they could get a ticket, if illegally owning a firearm, they could get jail time, or murdering someone, they could get anything from jail to the death penalty. But besides chafing from the perceived constraints of "political correctness," what do any of you know about tangible penalties for being a bigot? The people who opposed the Civil Rights movement didn't simply magically become unbiased. Over time and exposure to other races, some reformed. Others had children, and instilled their racial animus and intransigence into them. They grew up to become teachers, policemen, lawyers, doctors, nurses, salesmen, and all other walks of life. Racial animus and its myriad manifestations didn't all just go away. Worst to 1st. Curse Reversed!

I'm an old white guy and I love the way he plays the game. ![]() I just think doing this after every first down is silly and lacking in character. ^

@NYC, do you have an issue with AROB doing the silly ball spin thing after every catch/first down? Or A Hurns doing the little pointing thing when he gets a first down? Or nearly every other skill player who gets a first down?
So tired of people saying using race to justify not liking Newton.
I'm a white male, I think he's awesome. I have have tons of white friends, they love him. Besides online comments, I have yet to hear someone say to me, face to face, that they don't like Cam Newton. One dumb old lady sent a dumb letter saying she was offended by his celebrations, so of course that means everyone that doesn't like him is a racist.

it's because there is no legitimate reason to not like him. people are running out of reasons to not like him. I'm not throwing out the race card, trust me, I'm not that guy, but it's definitely curious
Cam is destroying the media's long-running narrative that only a certain type of QB can win (or even get to) the "Big One".
Guy is going to be the MVP of the league. He has earned it. Nothing he does on the field is a problem.
Get over yourselves. Quote:@NYC, do you have an issue with AROB doing the silly ball spin thing after every catch/first down? Or A Hurns doing the little pointing thing when he gets a first down? Or nearly every other skill player who gets a first down? To be clear - and as I've already stated - I don't have an "issue" with Cam's schtick. I just prefer to see players show a bit more class, and I'd be more of a fan if he wasn't so over the top. I'd love to see Robinson scale back the celebrations after first downs as this offense gains maturity in the coming years. It's a bit over the top - but it's a lot easier to swallow when it's "your team." (as I previously stated) And I absolutely despise Branch's antics - celebrating a tackle at the LOS when we are down by 3 TDs. Pfffft. Moron. Again - this whole thing is not a big deal to me and I've been largely posting today to have a little good-natured fun with our resident panthers fan. We show less advertisements to registered users. @NYC, re your quote regarding Came here: "I just think doing this after every first down is silly and lacking in character."
Does that apply to the players I mentioned (Hurns, Robinson), since they do the same type of thing? Quote:@NYC, re your quote regarding Came here: "I just think doing this after every first down is silly and lacking in character."Can you read?
@NYC, you never stated that Robinson and Hurns were "lacking character" like you stated that Cam does. You emphatically stated that Cam "lacks character" because of his first down celebrations. I then asked you does that apply to AROB and Hurns and you then back peddled to "well, it's just a bit over the top". With that said:
1) Does the "lacking character" apply to AROB and Hurns? 2) If not, would you like to retract your "lacking character" statement about Cam? |
