No one has stated they hated Cam. A handful of posters have stated he rubs them the wrong way, or even sometimes rubs them the wrong way. No one has stated that he is a bad athlete. In fact I think most have praised his abilities. So can we leave the race crap out of it?

I fully anticipate this thread being shut down soon.  However, since it remains open, I will address the points presented within as I see fit.

 

1.  BET is white owned and has been since 2000.

2.  BET was created because black artists, by and large, were being ignored by MTV at the time, as were black consumers.  Here is David Bowie, in 1983, describing what he saw on MTV at the time.  http://www.ew.com/article/2016/01/11/dav...blasts-mtv

 

The funny thing is, there is marketing towards particular demographics based upon immutable characteristics all the time without any complaint from those of your ilk.  Lifetime touts itself as "Television for Women."  El Rey and Spike TV clearly market themselves towards a young male demographic, but there's nary a peep from you accusing those networks of sexism.  But apparently, something is innately wrong with marketing to black consumers.

 

As far as black colleges are concerned,  black colleges were created because white colleges and universities denied admission to blacks on the basis of their color.  Blacks were faced with two options:

• Do nothing, wait for the larger society to fully integrate us into the mainstream, remaining uneducated and ultimately without economic wherewithal, and being unable to provide services and goods routinely denied us, being castigated for lacking ambition, initiative, being lazy, etc.; or
  
• Open institutions where blacks were welcomed and encouraged to pursue higher education, to provide goods and services otherwise denied us, and contribute more than just menial labor to the larger society as a whole, while being castigated as racist and segregationist.
  

The first choice wasn't much of an option, considering there was a considerable portion of the country who believed strongly in white supremacy, to the point they were willing to destroy the greatest country ever created to advance those principles through secession and the Civil War.  Even after the Civil War, the larger society was not welcoming to blacks.

 

Keep in mind, HBCUs have not discriminated and do not, as a matter of policy, discriminate against whites who want to matriculate within their walls.  While the majority of the student populations at HBCUs are black, there have been and are white students and faculty at these institutions.

 

Lest you think the passage of the Civil Rights Act and related laws eliminated the need for these institutions to exist, three points.

 

1.  Why should these HBCUs close because these laws were passed?  The HBCUs weren't the ones discriminating and making the Civil Rights laws necessary in the first place.

 

2.  People who still harbor racial animus against blacks continue to work to weaken those Civil Rights laws.  Prudence mandates keeping these institutions open as a safeguard against reactionary political forces that would seek to undermine the gains made by people of color.

 

3.  Many have no problem with blacks representing the majority population in negative contexts like ghettos or prisons, but when it comes to something positive like higher education, suddenly there is a problem.

There are just as many racist blacks as there are whites. I always liked Cam bit to pull the race card is one thing I dont agree with. You have BET, black beauty pageants, black college's etc.. If there was a White Entertainment Television orWhite Beauty Pageant that would be rasist. The great players always get bashed at certain times for 1 reason or another and Cam is no different. Tebow got bashed more than anyone and he is the most standup guy and goodie goodie there is.

This is a blatantly ignorant stance.

 

Liking a person is not a mandate, nor does there have to be underlying issues (whatever that is supposed to entail) for someone to rub you the wrong way. I don't care for Geddy Lee's voice, it just bothers me. I acknowledge how great of a musical contribution Rush has made to the world, but I don't listen to their music. Does this mean that I am suffering from some "underlying issue"? I put it to you that I just don't like the guys voice and that's all there really is to it. Rush fans can blast their tunes to their heart's content, but I won't be among them.

 

You don't have to like anybody, but the ones that you do like are a personal choice. I don't think it's fair to make character assumptions about someone without really knowing them, but that really has nothing to do with liking them.

I don't go quite THAT far.

 

I have hated my share of QBs over the last 38 or so years and It had nothing to do with their immutable traits.  I'm sure that's the case for many Cam detractors.

 

I just do not dismiss the idea of race being a motivating factor (consciously or subconsciously) for some.

You're classifying them in a general manner for one. Generally speaking I only hear good about Cam Newton's play. Also with his celebrations I generally hear good about that too. Doesn't mean I have to like it.


As for your examples,


Favre, there were many times from what I recall it did seem childish, other times seemed like he was just getting into it. Never got the impression he was all about himself. With exception of not retiring, that was kinda selfish to a degree. And trying to stick it to the packers that wasn't cool.


Peyton, sure he can whine. I don't care for whining Qbs. Overall I recognize what he's done in his career. Great QB


Brady: crybaby, cat stand him, awesome QB which makes me not like him more. Pretty sure Brady is white BTW, did I mention I can't stand this Brady character?

You assuming people don't like him purely based on him being a black quarterback says a lot more about YOU than it does about them.  You are as ignorant as they come.  There have been people here in this thread that have given completely logical points on why he rubs them the wrong way and you choose to ignore them.

You do know that there are people that have said negative things about literally every single quarterback you just mentioned?  Especially Peyton and Brady, more so Brady.

 

People disliked Namath back in the day for the same reason as Cam, but you choose to ignore it.  There's no real point in discussing this with you, you can't see past your ignorance.

I was going to mention this. he states that if someone doesn't like him they have serious issues. Which however just isn't the case. Which makes me wonder what kind of issues he has insisting it is about that.

Brian Urlacher said he prefers Peyton Manning's celebration style, the shake the receivers hand after a touchdown approach, to Cam's style.  Does that make him a racist too?
