Yeldon held in high esteem amongst NFL community

Quote:He's going to get a ton of reps next year. No Gerhart to steal goal line carries.

Ugh that sequence against the Bills was terrible. 4 STRAIGHT HANDOFFS TO GERHART AT THE ONE YARD LINE?!

Yeldon was hot that game also. Mind boggling to me.

Denard Robinson was the one who stole goal line carries.

Quote:The article just says we will pick a pass rusher in the first round, not necessarily at #5.

I agree with the article.  Its a deep draft for lineman and rushers.  So if we really wanted one particular player(like Joey Bosa) but he was selected before our pick at #5, it could make sense to trade down if the price was right.  SF at #7 desperately needs a QB.  Chicago at 11 may be in the market.  Philly at 13 and Rams at 15 are in serious need.  Personally I'd be hesitant to trade down to the teens, but if you convince the Niners somebody else is trying to jump them to grab the QB they want, could easily entice the Niners to move up.  And falling back only to #7, we'd still probably end up with the same dlineman we'd have taken at #5.  Ravens at #6 will probably go secondary or wr.

If we were just as happy with a safety as a defensive lineman, then it'd make more sense to stay put at #5 and take Jalen Ramsey.

I would not trade past 10 for anything less than a 2017 first round pick. Dropping down only two spots is fine with me unless Joey Bosa is available.

I was down on Yeldon during the early part of the season.  I don't understand all the 'high esteem' he gets, he seems very jumpy before he hits the hole.  Similar style to Bell IMO, but maybe with an improved line he'll have performance like Bell.  Maybe he'll make a big leap in his second year.  We'll see.

The run blocking was so bad I don't know how to properly evaluate any running back from last year.

You really can't evaluate much. Pretty much gets an A in my book just for surviving.

Yeldon is the real deal. He is going to be a good one.

This team has a weird history of doing things like that with the running back position.

See: Fred Taylor

THERE IS A SKELETON INSIDE OF YOU.

RIGHT NOW. THIS IS NOT A JOKE.

The problem early on was he often had no holes to run through.

Thing is, Fred's always had someone who "really" can steal goal line carries: Lil Man, Stacey Mack, and then MJD. Those are all powerful goal line backs. Not to say Fred wasn't capable of it. But since we're talking Fred, and comparisons to him of Yeldon...there probably lies the issue why TJ didn't get tons of goal line carries in this offense:

He dances a lot in the backfield.

You really can't do that in the red zone.

True.

Also -  He actually got stuffed on at least three different chances he had at the goal line that I recall.  Coughing up the ball on one of them.

The goal line running issues in 2015 had more to do with Beadles, Wiz and Joeckel than any of the backs IMO.

I was quite angry when we picked him in the 2nd round but he showed that he was worth the pick this season.

Linder coming back and Beadles going will fix our run game issues.

Jag fans hold onto to the slightest hopes. I can't blame anyone really, we have so few great players. Unfortunately Yeldon is not a great player either. I wrote he probably wouldn't last his rookie season and was roundly booed. True to form, he didn't last. His body is just not powerful and he gets hurt and it goes back to college. When not hurt he might have a 30 yard game or a 100 yard game. That is a  Pretty average back. No our line wasn't good, but great backs don't get huge lanes anymore, they make their room. But bottom line it's a passing league, Yeldon isn't going to hurt us if he can stay healthy, a big IF, and perhaps he can develop more as a blocker to keep Blake from getting killed. He is just a suitable guy in a position that isn't as valued as it once was except holding a lead and running clock. Sorry Jag fans he will never ever see a pro bowl, or get 1500 yards, he isn't MJD so held in high esteem? By his mother perhaps. In the real world he is just an average player, which is ok.

I blamed the play calling. If running between Beadles and Wiz does not work, why not call a run around Joeckel on the next play?

Because Joeckel sucks too.

No doubt the interior was an issue, and should get better as Cann gets stronger, return of Linder, and upgrade it as a whole. But, as I said, this might have played a role into why TJ wasn't called upon to run in the goal line. If you expect that the three interior guys aren't going to open a huge hole, do you want a guy who's going to dance and try to bounce it outside or cut? Or would you rather get a guy who tries to make the best of what little hole (if any) the OL creates?

IMO, yes the interior OL had their faults (its not like we only struggled in the redzone, we struggled in short yardage as a whole, including QB sneaks which is the ultimate proof of no push from interior). But my guess is TJ's running style played a factor on why he didn't get the carries in those situations

What does that have to do with a running back?
