Mike Dirocco: Free Agent (mailbag)

The only issue I have with Poz only playing on 1st and 2nd is he is basically our QB on defense. It would be odd to have him out their calling plays on 1st and 2nd and then pull him off the field for another guy.

Its interesting to see what will happen to Poz's role.
He was a big liability in the passing game last year but an improved pass rush should help to cover his deficiencies in theory? Then again its not like another year is going to make him any more mobile. Personally I would love to take Kendell Beckwith next year as his successor but that's looking too far ahead. If we do draft a potential successor in this years draft I'm sure Pozs role will be adjusted as the season goes on depending on his performance. Note: Wrote this many pints deep so may not make too much sense)

Poz will be another yeae older and even be more of a liability Quote:Its interesting to see what will happen to Poz's role.Yes. And a better FS will help bail him out a bit too. The team certainly has bigger fish to fry than replacing Poz - but I like the idea of a speedy youngster learning from him for a year or two and getting out there for 20 or 30 snaps each game on passing downs in the short term.
If we got a pass rusher and center in FA and Dave drafted a FS and MLB in the first 2 rounds would you guys rather Ramsey and Brothers or Mack and Thompson/Joseph?

Quote:If we got a pass rusher and center in FA and Dave drafted a FS and MLB in the first 2 rounds would you guys rather Ramsey and Brothers or Mack and Thompson/Joseph? That's a seriously tough choice. I think I would go with Ramsey and Brothers for the simple reason that I think safety is a bigger priority than linebacker. Jack and Telvin in the same LB group with Joseph running amok behind them is tempting though
Quote:I think you could make a strong argument that every position, except OG, WR and LS, on the Jags have a need. I think Dirocco is just pointing to the top 2 areas, pass rush and free safety. I don't think we need a QB as well. Just saying ![]()
Quote:Gibson was rated the 187 best safety in the NFL on PFF. I did not know they had that many. This could be good.

Quote:I seriously doubt that. I watched a good portion of several games of his because my buddy's a Browns fan and he has Sunday Ticket. He truly was that bad. Plus, he's as knowledgeable about the Browns as we are with the Jags, and he went on weekly rants about Gipson. It's just not as apparent to us because we didn't have to watch Gipson play every week, and other stories about the Browns dominated the media so it kind of took the heat off him. Quote:Vernon gonna look really good rushing the passer opposite of Fowler.....Yeldon could get used to seeing Mack in the backfield with him every other play. The QB position is a need, just not in the starting role.

You were seeing it right. The Browns didn't have Haden and Skrine out there like the year Gipson looked great. As a result, he disappeared and/or looked pretty awful. I could see the same result if Gipson goes to another team that doesn't have iron clad DB play.
Quote:Henne is a free agent. The QB position is a need, just not in the starting role. If its is not in the starting role then that all what matters because whoever is the backup might not be playing anyway because Bortles is durable. So like I said again QB is not a need to me because we got a good starting one. ![]() We show less advertisements to registered users. Accounts are free; join today! So like I said again QB is not a need to me because we got a good starting one.According to NFL Media Research, the 32 teams use on average about 60 different starting QBs in a season. The backup QB is an important role, and used often. Your logic is naive. I am not indicating the role will be difficult to fill (likely a Henne re-signing will suffice) or a draft pick needs to be used. However, the QB position, when including backups, is a current need as the backup is non-existent.
