2016 First Round Pick

Quote:Yeah, I've been saying the same thing. Myles Jack would be perfect as our Bobby Wagner.

Bosa, Ramsey, and Jack is the 3 guys I would want at 5 and in that order.

I'd also utilize his offensive talents here and there also! Instead of Alualu for those random times he is in, we can insert Jack instead and now there is another real threat on the field. Just an overall freak athlete.

Totally agree. One of those 3 will most likely be there too.

We need playmakers and speed... Jack and Ramsey are both.

Love the Kevin Byard pick, he's got some of the best ball skills in the draft.

We are just on the eve of the silly season, where teams spend money like drunken sailors on a Saturday night.

So let's get started spending some money.

Free Agency:

1.) Malik Jackson - DE/DT - Broncos - 5 Yrs - 65 Mil - Avg 13 Mil/Season

What Malik Jackson brings to the table is the ability to spell not only Odrick at the 5 Tech, but also allow Odrick to spell Marks at the 3 Tech. Jackson can also play some 3 Tech and could even line up at Nose on passing downs. Essentially, signing Jackson is like signing a DT that can play DE, which makes Jackson very valuable in the Jags defensive scheme.

2. Trumaine Johnson - CB - Rams - 5 Yrs - 63 Mil - Avg 12.6 Mil/Season

The Rams will tag Janoris Jenkins leaving Johnson to test the market, where I expect him to break the bank in terms of a contract. The Jags need a big CB that likes to tackle and Johnson fills the bill.

3. Bruce Irvin - Otto LB - Seahawks - 4 yrs - 42 Mil - Avg - 10.5 Mil/Season

The Jags get an upgrade over Skuta at the Otto LB and they overpay and outbid the Falcons in the process.

4. Tashaun Gipson - FS - Browns - 5 Yrs - 36 Mil - Avg - 7.2 Mil/Season

Gipson has a lot to prove but he still wants to get paid. The Jags bet big that Gipson can return to his former form.

5. Lamar Miller - RB - Dolphins - 5 Yrs - 27 Mil - Avg 5.4 Mil/Season

The Jags grab the best young RB in Free Agency to pair with T.J. Yeldon to fortify the running game.

Draft:

Rd 1(5): Joey Bosa - DE - Ohio State

Bosa falls a bit after the Chargers take DeForrest Buckner and the Cowboys take Ramsey.

Rd 2(38): Ryan Kelly - C - Alabama

Jags draft their Center and fix the middle of their Oline with Cann, Kelly and Linder.

Rd 3 - On the clock, the Jags trade Picks 69 (Rd 3) and 141 (Rd 5) to New England for

Chandler Jones - DE - Patriots - signing him to a 5 Yr - 65 Mil contract averaging 13 Mil/Season

Now the Jags have scheme versatility with Fowler, Bosa and Jones - capable of rotating at the Leo and Jackson and Odrick at the 5 Tech. Plenty of Pass Rush

Rd 4 (105): DeAndre-Houston Carson - FS - William & Mary

Converted CB that can play FS - small school standout that showed his wares at the Senior Bowl and looked good in the process

Rd 6 (177) Josh Forrest - ILB - Kentucky

Backup MLB that could become another Danny Trevathan - he has a similar skillset

Rd 6(193): Trae Elston - SS - Mississippi

Really came on for the Rebels at the Bandit Safety position with lots of open field tackles and a knack for the interception with 4 this past season.

Rd 7(213) Ejiro Ederaine - OLB - Fresno State

Tackling machine, good in coverage, real sleeper to back up Telvin Smith at the WLB position

Whoa, someone else would be happy with Ryan Kelly at 38!

Which is not happening and would be a reach for this team.

Defense the first 4 rounds.

Defense the first 4 rounds.
If we do as good in FA as everyone expects, plus adding a defender round 1, why would we box ourselves in to defense first 4 rounds? If we get like one of Malik or Vernon and one of Hayward or Sean Smith in FA, along with Ramsey/Bosa/Jack in the draft why wouldn't we consider locking up a fantastic plug and play player at a position of need? He should absolutely be a strong candidate at 38. He gave up 1 sack, 8 pressures, and 1 penalty in 1,012 career snaps. That's insanely good for anywhere, much less against SEC dlines.

However, he is also getting plenty of helium with how big he measured and with several of the other centers being smaller than expected...so it's likely he goes 1st round or very early 2nd now. I don't expect to have the opportunity to get him anymore.

If a defensive player and the center are graded equally, it will be defense and should be.

Center is not a position you want a rookie playing at during week 1. I bet a vet will be there for us week 1.

Defense all draft.

Based upon some new information and some other assumptions like Trumaine Johnson and Olivier Vernon do not make it to Free Agency. Also there is a vibe from O'Halleran, (not a fan) that Bruce Irvin will not be targeted. Lastly, the fact that Caldwell suggested that the Jags may sign older players, my Free Agent list has changed.

Free Agency:

1. Malik Jackson - DT - Broncos - 13 Mil/Season - If he makes it to Free Agency he will be a Jag.

2. Sean Smith - CB - Chiefs - 10 MIl/Season - A Big CB with experience

3. Robert Ayers - DE - Giants - 8 Mil/Season - Giants keep JPP but not Ayers and his 9.5 sacks last season

4. Tashaun Gipson - FS - Browns - 8 MIl/Season - Had a down year in 2015, but that was due to a lingering ankle injury, will 2016 be a bounce back season?

5. Tamba Hali - Otto LB - Chiefs - 8 Mil/Season - between Hali and Skuta, the Jags will have more plays from the Otto position

6. Lamar Miller - RB - Dolphins - 5 Mil/Season - just a hunch but between he and Yeldon the Jags running game is much improved.

Draft - no trades included

Rd 1(5): Joey Bosa - DE - Ohio State - a bit overhyped so he falls to the Jags at Pick 5

Rd 2(38): Ryan Kelly - C - Alabama - he showed today that he is a value pick at 38 and will be a Day One Starter for the next 10 years

Rd 3(69): Xavien Howard - CB - Baylor - Another Big CB that will be groomed to replace Sean Smith in a few years

Rd 4(105): DeAndre-Houston Carson - FS - William&Mary - Small school FS that will play behind Gipson who will experience injuries

Rd 5(141): Willie Beavers - OT - Western Michigan - Backup swing Tackle and an upgrade over Sam Young

Rd 6(177) Josh Forrest - ILB - Kentucky - has a little bit of Danny Travathan in him, but will take a few years to develop

Rd 6(193): Trae Elston - SS - Mississippi - a real sleeper at Safety and a sure tackler with good hands for the INT (4 in 2015)

Rd 7(213): Ejiro Ederaine - OLB - Fresno State - sleeper WLB that can do it all but is a bit undersized.

The scuttlebutt at the Combine is that Tashaun Gipson is up for a big payday in Free Agency with a number of teams pursuing his services. If the Jags want him I think they will be paying in the range of 10 Mil per season.

Reply

Not trying to create a rumor here, but might the Jags consider bringing in Derrick Johnson of the Chiefs as an Otto LBer. He is 33 years old but had 116 TT, 4 Sacks, 2 Ints and 10 PD in 2015. He could be a short term bandaid at the Otto LB spot pushing Skuta to the bench. Might the recent suggestion by Dave Caldwell be pointing to interest in a player like Derrick Johnson?

Anybody see this...

Publically seeking a long term deal for sometime, Muhammad Wilkerson, could be a tag and trade candidate La Canfora reports. The Jets and Wilkerson's reps aren't close on a long term deal and haven't discussed it much since talks broke off last year. The 25 year old's been the game's second best 3-4 defensive end over the past few seasons, and the 15.7 Mil Wilkerson would draw as a tagged player would make Gang Green's auxiliary moves , like keeping Ryan Fitzpatrick - more difficult. The Jets possess 21.9 Mil worth of cap space. League executives told La Canfora, Wilkerson is "plenty worth" the deal Marcell Darius signed to stay in Buffalo last year (six years, 95.1 Mil, with a 25 Mil signing bonus) and would be incredibly sought after on the open market. La Canfora lists the Giants, Raiders and Jaguars as teams that would listen in a tag and trade scenario.
