I'd rather take a flier on a LB (depth even) than gronk in the fifth, but its pretty good otherwise. If you are set on gronk - I'd look at a defensive player rather than a RB in the next round.
This team needs depth at LB at the least, and at the most a faster guy to play MLB on third down. Gonna be better to find that guy in the draft than free agency, IMO.
Gene, is that you?

In this scenario San Diego selects Joey Bosa with the 3rd pick allowing Jalen Ramsey to fall to the Jaguars. In FA the Jaguars collect Malik Jackson, DT, and a CB. Assuming Vernon is franchised there are no tier 1 FA DE available.
Jaguars select: 1. Jalen Ramsey, FS, Florida State 2. Shilique Calhoun, DE, Michigan St 3. Sebastian Tretola, OG, Arkansas 4. Eric Murray, CB, Minnesota 5. Dadi Nicolas, OLB, Virginia Tech 6. Antonio Morrison, ILB, Florida 6. Daniel Lasco, RB, California 7. Curt Maggitt, OLB, Tennessee Maggitt has some injury issues and is a boom or bust prospect. Both he and Nicolas have pass rush abilities.

Assuming Vernon is franchised there are no tier 1 FA DE available. Seems pretty realistic. Vernon looks like he will be franchised so time for a plan B. I would be good with Malik Jackson, a vet edge rusher/OTTO, and a FS. I would play Ramsey at CB for his press skills and then move him around in the nickel like Arizona does with Mattieu. I would think long and hard about Noah Spence. He has stated that he has been addicted to Ecstasy since high school. That was why he was kicked out of Ohio State. He has spent a year rehabilitating himself at EKU, but still, given our history with Justin Blackmon, I would hesitate to spend a high pick on a guy with substance abuse problems.
Quote:Seems pretty realistic. Based on the Cameron Jordan deal (5 yr/55 m plus incentives), it is believed in Miami (Miami Herald) that his roughly $12m per year (w/incentives) deal will be the "floor" of any dealings with Olivier Vernon. The franchise tag for a DE is estimated to be $15.5m for a one year deal. The Dolphins have some real needs, and with the Suh signing this past year, it will be difficult to afford a $15m hit. The thought in South Florida is that they will try to work a long term deal with Vernon, to spread upfront money over the contract. However, they don't see using the franchise tag on him. You never know....but that's the word in Phin-Land.
Quote:Round 1: Noah Spence OLB/Edge Eastern Kentucky That's too high for Noah Spence. I say that because of his admission that he has had an addiction to Ecstasy since high school, and our experience with Justin Blackmon and Matt Jones. I like the idea of getting an OG in the 3rd round. 3rd round has always seemed like prime time to get an OG. If we can get an OG at that spot, we can move Cann to Center and have a good trio on the inside. We show less advertisements to registered users. Accounts are free; join today!
I personally feel Spence is the best pass rusher in the draft. And with Bosa gone I wouldn't hesitate to pick Spence even with the off the field concerns.
Haven't done a mock in a long time. Here goes (used drafttek.com for availability)...
Free Agency:* OG Kelechi Osmele ...Osmele is a beast, allows Cann to move to center. Interior OL fixed. LEO Olivier Vernon ...address edge pass rush with young proven arrow pointing up guy. Expensive. CB Trumaine Johnson ...6'2 205 cover corner allows Colvin to move inside. Re-sign: Henne, Lewis, and Harbor *would like to add a FS like Weddle, but assuming only get 3 (and Vernon/Johnson will break the piggy) Draft: 1. ILB Myles Jack ...add speed and impact to the middle. 2. OTTO Leonard Floyd ...add speed and rush to the hybrid role. 3. FS Karl Joseph ...hard hitter with safety position versatility. 4. RB Kenneth Dixon ...productive and complete back for rotation. 5. OLB Deion Jones ...great depth and special teams. 6. OT/G Spencer Drango ...Sam Young upgrade. 6. K Roberto Aguayo ...no faith in Meyer's consistency. 7. DT Quinton Jefferson ...competition in the trenches.
Unfortunately I doubt we get the top oline, pass rusher, and debatable but also who I have as the top corner in FA.
