Jaguars 2016 Linebacking Corps
|
I'm hoping they find their ideal starting OTTO while relegating Skuta to a backup role.
Meanwhile, I'm anxious to see what another offseason for Armbrister might do for him.

A new linebackers coach and/or a different scheme is needed, in my opinion. Standing like statues in pass coverage while the QB waits patiently for his receivers to run past them is not the secret to success.

Standing like statues in pass coverage while the QB waits patiently for his receivers to run past them is not the secret to success. It doesn't appear that either is happening. Wash is a master of their current scheme so it's not going away, although he might bring some tweaks to it. And I haven't heard a peep about the defensive position coaches changing.

The Jags need a new starting Otto Quote:I'm hoping they find their ideal starting OTTO while relegating Skuta to a backup role. As long as they address pass rush, free safety and find one more interior O-Lineman (guard or center) before doing that, it wouldn't hurt. However - It was Skuta's first year in a new system and he played through a hernia injury half of the year. I expect he'd be better in year two if healthy. There are quite a few LBs in the draft that have the measurables for the OTTO role that look like they'll be around in mid rounds. Joe Schobert (Wisconsin) in the fifth round is a possibility. Quote:I couldn't agree more that Skuta is a backup. The Jags need a new starting OttoScooby Wright, you could also bring him in for passing situations as he is a good pass rusher as well Quote:I don't think Poz's future replacement is currently on the roster. I can envision DC using a mid round selection on a developmental Mike candidate. Scooby Wright is one name to throw out there if available in the 3rd. He was the 2014 Pac 12 DPOTY, a tackling machine, but may fall due to injuries. He could be a value if he checks out medically. I'd really like Scooby in the 3rd. I think Skuta in his second year will be an impact player.
Skuta played very well last year what are you guys talking about lol

Quote:Skuta played very well last year what are you guys talking about lol I agree but also feel like this scheme requires investment into certain positions, like how pure 3-4 teams like pittsburgh tend to draft LBers every year. I think Otto's and Leos need to be drafted every year because many will not work out. Other than that tall rangy corners, Lbers with speed. They seem to be content filling the 2 DT roles and Big end role with free agents unless someone unexpectedly falls (Bennett) Iike Caldwell said the right FS is the hardest thing to find for the scheme.
Go Jags!
*To stay up for atleast 2 years 3/6/17 2016 draft players I think will be good

I see them adding at least one linebacker. I wouldn't be surprised to see it be a higher draft pick.
Depth is needed as is more speed at LB outside of Telvin.

IT WAS ALWAYS THE JAGS
In a very broad sense, I want the LB corps to become the force of the Defense, much like the Patrick Willis - Navarro Bowman 49ers. In order to achieve this, high level talent needs to be added (thanks Captain Obvious) so that means investing a lot of capital at the spot. There are some top flight talents at LB available in the Draft this year, top flight in my opinion anyway. So it would seem that the team is going to have to go LB early in the Draft in order to get one.
While I understand that Free Safety is a big point of emphasis for a lot of people, I am of the line of thinking that a big time talent at LB, regardless of which LB spot it is, has a much larger and quicker return than DB. In other words, you get better, faster when you add good talent to LB as opposed to DB. All of that being said, I think the team cherry picks a Free Agent or two at the spot, then goes LB early (Myles Jack please!) and probably comes back around later in the form of Matakevich from Temple, Kwiatkoski from WVU, or Rhodes from William & Mary.
I'm trying to make myself more informed and less opinionated.
Stop saying whatever stupid thing you're talking about and pay attention to all the interesting things I have to say!

I want Jack as well and I want a steady supply of Ottos(that can play Leo situationally) every draft. More speed at LB and a bit of a passrush fix a ton of this defense's issues. I would move Colvin to FS in base and the slot in nickel with Nick Marshall at FS in nickel (entirely based off us not getting a FS in the draft) keep Sergio another year incase that plan failed miserably I would expect more corners to be brought in through the draft and FA, that is where I expect the #2 corner to come from.
Go Jags!

I'd like to see Cyp go on the Thomas Davis plan.
