What needs to happen for a Super Bowl trophy to come to Jax?

Of course a fan would want their team to win a Superbowl. That's obvious.

But, only 1 team succeeds in that goal each year.

It would've been much better the past few seasons to see the Jags winning games, competing, and getting into the playoffs (even if they didn't win it all) than watching the train wreck we've all witnessed.

I certainly hope that my team could win it all. Although I'd definitely take seeing them in the playoffs and competing in big games every season even if they didn't win the championship. Losing, boring seasons are losing, boring seasons.

In large part,  the first option you mentioned has been the path of the Giants in the last decade.

A defense, this Superbowl and many others in the history of the NFL has proven this. You need a very good defense and an offense that can score 24-30 points. We have that offense, if we find a good defense we will be OK. Now I am one of those guys that just can't see simple Gus ever wielding a Lombardi as a head coach, but I would be more than happy to be wrong if he brought one to Jacksonville. So a defense, and a new HC/coaching staff.

So YOU are saying a better coach takes us to the SB?

I'm saying the current one won't.

The defense needs to get a lot better, but I don't see that happening under Sprinkles

Ah yup. I hope they turn it around, but I don't think they will.

Quote:I was thinking about making a thread on what the Jags need to do to be a playoff team this upcoming season. Basically it boils down to this:

Defense:

-Get at least 2 premiere pass rushers to go with Fowler, both interior and outside rushing

-Add a second starting-caliber corner and move Colvin back to nickel

-Add a serviceable free safety. He doesn't even have to be elite, just someone who can get the damn job done

-Hope Fowler is who you think he is and he is stronger than he was in college with the year he had to do basically nothing but workout in the weight room

-Add a versatile, big body linebacker (think Patriots style) to play at OTTO and send Skuta to the bench

Offense:

-Bortles cuts the interceptions by at least 6 and improves his completion percentage to at least 62%

-Fix the interior by adding an impact player at either guard or center, doesn't matter which

-Get a legitimate running back to back Yeldon up and hope Yeldon stays healthy and takes the next step

-Robinson and Hurns continue on their trajectory

-Lee and Greene stay healthy, improve, and contribute

-Joeckel improves to protect Bortles or replace him. (my eyes still tell me he's bad even if the org keeps telling me he's OK)

Coaching:

-Free sprinkle cupcakes on Fridays

If we do all these things the Jags should be in the playoffs.

Quote:We need bigger freezers in the locker room to store more cartons of ice cream to fit the needs of our bigger eaters (looking at you, Abry Jones).

More variety of flavors, you could tell the team got sick of the selection as the year went on.

An updated soft serve machine with a swirl option, nobody wants to mix chocolate and vanilla on their own after a tough loss.

Rotate the assistant ice cream scooper position so everybody gets a chance, instead of just letting alualu do it every week.

More toppings, last year there were only chocolate sprinkles but no rainbow. Seriously?

Whipped topping for every player after a win, not just for high performers.

And let's get some friggin waffle cones for crying out loud! These cheap wafer cones are disgusting and can barely even hold one scoop let alone 2 or 3.

what a dumb [BLEEP].

Seriously?

You would rather be the Bengals of the past 4 years than win a SB?

I would take the Jags going winless in 3 straight seasons if it meant winning a SB next year.

SB then 0-16 0-16 0-16.... I really don't care as long as we win a SB. You can hang that SB over other teams heads for a long long time.

Wind up with a +10 turnover ratio.

Avoid injuries.

Increase sacks and pressure on the quarterback.

More speed at linebacker

Upgrade a free safety.

A higher completion percentage from Blake.

Yeldon 1000 rushing yards.

Most important - MASSIVE improvement from Luke Joekel.

Of course I'd love to see them win a Superbowl, absolutely. Every team's fans should want that to happen.

I also would love to see them competitive every single season (actually staying in contention, playing big-time games, playing in the postseason, etc.).

This is really a silly question anyway, IMO. Really, how many teams get to or win a Superbowl and then are terrible for the next few seasons afterwards? It has to be rare, very rare. Usually those teams are in the playoffs or contending the next couple seasons at least.

It's coincidental you mention the Bengals. Due to my geographic location, and my "old" age, I grew up watching then and attending many games in Cincy. I still attend quite a few games there each year (I always go when the Jags are playing there!).

Over the past decade, I have been to many very exciting games in Cincy. I have seen them compete with and defeat a bunch of the top franchises in the league over that span (Pats, Packers, Seahawks, Broncos, Colts, etc. It's been a pretty big list). The atmosphere is electric when the Bengals are having good seasons.

I remember attending games during the dreadful "Bungles" years. There is a DRASTIC difference in the atmosphere of the stadium between those dreadful years and the past decade. It's a drastic difference.

Of course those fans would love to see a Superbowl victory. But, I seriously doubt most of those fans would like to see a few dreadful seasons return to that place. Where's the fun in that?

It's just my personal opinion, everybody is entitled to one. I LOVE football season. I look forward to it each year. I want my team to play competitive games every year. The whole season is exciting to me. If it wasn't, no one would even watch or care about it until mid-January.

Anyway, YES, I'd love a Superbowl win. As a FAN, I want the team to be good every season too.
