My take from these cuts, is the Rams are going to make every effort possible to re-sign both Janoris Jenkins and Trumaine Johnson, as well they should. The question is will they? I got a feeling that they will tag Jenkins and sign Johnson prior to Free Agency.

The Rams have 58 million now, 5th most in the league...and I believe that's calculated before the 12 million cap increase so I think 70 million really. If those CB want to stay they'll easily be able to get huge deals and stay...McLeod included.

If the Rams want to keep both CBs, Jenkins and Johnson, they will need to get one signed rather quickly (before free agency starts), and then tag the other. My gut is one of these guys will test the waters.

Sounds like Janoris is going to be the pre FA signing priority and Trumaine is going to the transition tag.

Yeah they appear to be keeping Jenkins,Johnson and McLeod. This FA class is looking worse by the week.

Yeah it does suck but the draft is where this teams future will depend on if we are a contender or not. We have to hit on our picks

I oddly haven't personally seen a peep about them and McLeod, but they obviously have the money to keep him if they have mutual interest. I am assuming they do.

If the Post Dispatch writer's rumor of a transition tag comes true for Trumaine Johnson, it would mean a team may make an offer for him, but the team has the right to match. If a team does acquire him, no compensation is given to the Rams. Most will remember this tag was used when the Jags went after Alex Mack previously. The transition tag would save the Rams about $2m instead of using the approximate $13.7m franchise tag.

Yep, it would be exactly like an Alex Mack situation. The Rams have boatloads of cap to match any contract someone signs Trumaine to.

I don't see any harm in signing him to a gigantic contract with a few player friendly clauses written in. Hey, if the Rams don't wanna negotiate a contract and pay the man, that's their deal. I'm of the opinion that the Jags put the screws to Cleveland in the Alex Mack deal, and I'd enjoy seeing us do it again to the Rams.

Sure, that's one way to look at it. The other could be the Rams relaxing and spending time working on other FA deals while they let another team do the tough negotiating with Trumaine for them. Not that the Jags won't/shouldn't try...it will just be a practice in futility again.
