Dante Fowler fight referee

Quote:I think that there are things that Fowler could have done better to prevent the attack from happening.

Do you think it's possible there were better alternatives than Fowler letting his girlfriend attack the victim?

Possibly, yes, but I cannot definitively state what those possibilities might have been since I do not know what transpired prior to the video.

For the record, I am not necessarily opposed to the stance you have taken in this thread.

However your response begs the question:  If you cannot bring yourself to state that Fowler had a legal or moral obligation to intervene, why argue so vociferously against him here?  If he didn't fail to live up to a standard of care, why is he so wrong here?

What has he done during his time in the league so far that would make us think he's anything other what FBT said?

What has he done during his time in the league that you would think he's a good guy? Fact is nobody knows.

Many assumptions being made from both viewpoints.

Best case scenario: DFJ and his gf run into baby momma in a random encounter. Words are exchanged between the two females and they agree to fight as long as Dante starts the round and agrees to ref for them. Fight ends, both girls go home, nothing to worry about.

Worst case scanario: DFJ has a fantasy about wanting to see 2 women that he has recently been involved with fight over him. He calls both, offers both considerable money if they are willing to meet and throw down. They meet, fight when he starts them, and finish.

The truth of what really happened lies somewhere between these two takes. I think most of us would have no problem with how the best case scenario went down. However, can we all agree that the worst case scenario is a big deal? At this point, no one except the three people in the video know the whole truth, but I'm sure it will come out eventually.

Can we just suspend him for the season and move on already?

Maybe Dante has dreams of being a UFC ref when he retires.  Good practice.

Do you think Fowler had a moral obligation to stop the fight?

No way.

Where is your cynicism/lack of imagination?!?  :teehee:

In my mind, the worst case scenario is that he is truly [BAD WORD REMOVED] at his ex and he wanted to do her harm, but understands given his position, he can't, so he gets his current girlfriend to do it for him, so they both plot to go to the ex's apartment or where they know she will be, the girlfriend fights the ex, but he intervenes to make sure stuff doesn't get out of hand.  No felony battery (or worse)...then no aiding and abetting the felony/accessory charges for him.

So you think he had no moral obligation to stop the fight.

Hailtoyourvictor, who has been tough on Fowler, has not been eager to assert Fowler had a legal or moral obligation to intervene?

How does the rest of the board feel about this point?

Did Fowler have a legal or moral obligation to intervene?

If hailtoyourvictor doesn't think so (at least based upon his refusal to affirmatively state Fowler has such an obligation), I'm wondering how this thread got to be so long.

You can't really argue with someone else's morality which is what a lot of you are doing. Personally, I find what he did to be gross and I wouldn't associate myself with anyone who acts like that.. But it's football and it's not like the players are held to super high standards...

Because it isn't just about whether or not he should have stopped the fight. I think that Fowler could have done more to prevent the fight from ever happening.

I understand the distinction, but for the purposes of this discussion, I include the more preemptive measures in the "intervention" analysis.  In other words, the intervention, for these purposes, is not restricted to AFTER the first punch was thrown.

To me, his culpability, whether legal or moral hinges on what happened leading up to the video.  Because of that, and because we have no way of knowing what transpired prior to what TMZ has shown, or for that matter, what was said during the video, I withhold judgment.
