Dolphins place transition tag on O.Vernon

#21

Quote:Looking at it, Dolphins are taking a bad gamble if they want to keep him.

To save 3 millions compared to the Franchise tag, they will now have to match an offer that can be frontloaded or setup anyhow another team wants. All this for 3 millions this year.

Yeah I'm really not sure what their play is here. Guess they are just letting another team set the market on him, and they can trim cap space accordingly (if they wish to retain him).

I think their is very little chance  he's a dolphin next year.

Dolphins fans on Twitter are now claiming this guy as an average football player who is terrible against the run. They know he's gone.

Absolutely.

Giants are basically in win now mode with Manning. Their defense is worse than ours so major competitor for free agents right there. I believe they are 6th in total cap space.

We can probably easily construct a contract they cannot match.

BUT... there's that waiting period where the Dolphins get to sit on the deal while we watch other free agents go elsewhere.   And believe me, even if they don't intend to match the offer, they will sit on this deal just to punish us a little.

So, if we get into making a deal with Vernon, and even if we make a deal, I expect some uncomfortable days as we wait and wait and wait for the outcome.

I don't think Oakland go after him. I think it's us and NYG.

Since teams can start negotiations with unrestricted free agents next Monday, is Vernon included in that group?

Raiders and Bucs are in almost identical situations too.

Which coach do you want to play for more and who offers the most money?

Vernon, Fowler, Marks, Miller, Odrick is a strong basis for the D-line. We have to go for him. Grab Jack in the draft and beef up the secondary in FA and the draft and the D would instantly be much better.

I forget, if the Jags sign him, do they have to give up any draft picks to the fins?  I know how the Franchise tag works but wasn't sure about transition tag.

I think John Idzik is still on the squad. We have more than enough people to offer other deals lol.
