"Everyone in the South knows [Manning] should have won the Heisman"
|
- Steve Spurrier today on the Paul Finebaum show.
Do you all folks in the south agree with that? I think the Heisman committee got it right that year. We show less advertisements to registered users. Accounts are free; join today!
If he would have won it, it wouldn't have hurt my feelings, and the fact that he didn't doesn't surprise me either. It could have gone either way...
What in the Wide Wide World of Sports is agoin' on here???
They probably knew he stuck his junk in that woman's face.

Quote:Of course you think the committee got it right. HAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHA. If a defensive player was going to get it, that was the year.....BUT, they passed over one of the best offensive players ever to give it to him.
Charles Woodson: 7 INTs/1 punt return TD/283 rec yards, 2 rec TDs/15 rushing yards, 1 rush TD
Peyton Manning: 287-477/60%/3,819 yards/36 TDs/11 INTs Ryan Leaf: 227-410/55%/3,968 yards/34 TDs/11 INTs Randy Moss: 96 rec/1820 yards/19.0 avg/26 TDs If we're going off pure stats alone, Manning definitely should have won it. It's a shame Randy Moss didn't get more love.

There are plenty of defenders who deserved it more than Woodson #becausestats We show less advertisements to registered users. Accounts are free; join today! Quote:Charles Woodson: 7 INTs/1 punt return TD/283 rec yards, 2 rec TDs/15 rushing yards, 1 rush TDMoss got drilled by the media for the "level of competition" he played in college (rightfully so),, and he had character concerns which led to him having to play at Marshall. I have no doubt,, if Moss had played at FSU or Norte Dame, he would've won the Heisman that year. He was that incredible. Woodson won the Heisman. But, I remember their rookie years in the NFL they had to face each other. I dont remeber any stats, but I do remember Moss getting the best of Woodson facing him 1 vs 1. Moss was THE freak athlete of that collegiate season.

I have no doubt,, if Moss had played at FSU or Norte Dame, he would've won the Heisman that year. He was that incredible. I don't disagree with this. The way it went down, though, Woodson deserved it. He was the best defensive player in years and possibly the best player in the country (unarguably top 3). He played for a team that won a national championship and was Mr. Everything for that team. He produced Heisman moment after Heisman moment after Heisman moment that year.
Manning
Leaf Woodson Moss You really can't argue how the Heisman voting went. What a pool of talent that year (sans Leaf, even though he was terrific in college). How could you go wrong choosing between Manning, Woodson, and Moss? Wow. Anyway, watching Moss was like watching someone play a video game on super-easy mode. He was ridiculous, and virtually unstoppable. The times he did face better competition (WVU, Ole Miss, etc.), he was still virtually unstoppable. I believe he would've still put up those crazy stats if he played at a bigger school. It was awesome to watch him in person. Insane Athlete. Anyway, I think Manning might've gotten it if it was a career award. But, Woodson had an incredible season and tons of media attention for his play. He was absolutely deserving of it.
Quote:Manning Yeah, that is a pretty crazy group. For as bad as he was in the NFL, Leaf was actually a dang good college QB. Manning, Moss, and Woodson all went on to be arguably top 1, 2, or 3 all-time at their respective positions. We show less advertisements to registered users. Accounts are free; join today!
Not a question in my mind that he should have won it.

Another terrible one that sticks out in my mind is Larry Fitzgerald not getting it. Jason White from Oklahoma won it that year.

There are much more egregious examples than Woodson getting it over Manning.
Gino Toretta winning over Marshall Faulk Jason White winning over Larry Fitzgerald
