I'm interested, why is that specifically? 

1.  Mario Williams is still young enough to be productive for a couple of years.

 

2.  Mario Williams has proven to be more productive than Vernon has been.  Vernon has never reached double digit sacks.  Williams has on several occasions.

 

3.  Mario Williams could give us more depth.  Because he is big enough to play that LDE in our scheme, it would enable Odrick to more readily move inside in some situations.  For that matter, Mario could move inside on some situations.

 

4.  Because of the kind of player he is, he could provide more balance to our D-Line.  He is a power player who can pass rush, which can make him a matchup problem with a RT, and would give us a viable pass rush threat opposite Fowler.  He is a more complete player than Vernon.

We've had any number of "try hard" guys on the team over the years, none of whom have provided any semblance of a pass rush.

 

You can take all of the Alualu's you want.  Give me a Mario Williams over them every time.
