Yeldon ran over a number of defenders in 2015.

He definitely doesn't shy away from contact.


Ivory will be the better short yardage option but I wouldn't pigeonhole Yeldon.

It's really an unnecessary signing on their part and Irvin's. Obviously, Irvin would have fit perfectly here in Jax, but I guess he wants a paid vacation like Hugh Douglas.

ANY Back can succeed in short yardage of the line is opening a hole for them. The good ones find a way when there isn't a hole.


Gerhart proved he couldn't get it done. I was bummed about that as I honestly felt good about him when we signed him, but he proved me wrong.

I didn't say opening a hole for him. I said not allowing penetration, which is the biggest run killer there is, especially true on short yardage. The line doesn't have to be good, but linemen can't be knifing into the backfield. Some backs can handle it better than others and Toby is poor at it. If Toby can get a couple steps in, he usually gets forward lean and the extra yard or two.


Of course all running backs would be better with a clean backfield, but Toby requires it and unfortunately Jacksonville is unable to give it to him. I still think he is a very tough runner. He'll do better on his next team. He didn't just suddenly forget how to run the year after he left the Vikings.

I'm not pigeonholing yeldon. I was labeling their strengths but you are right yeldon can truck. But if you watch the tape he is elusive and will most often try to make them miss.

I mean... It's hard to turn down potentially 1-2 mil more a year and the opportunity to play next to Mack.


When we see the numbers it may be obvious and a "can't say no" deal. We'll see.

So that seems to be the going rate. What's the problem?

Actually pretty stoked for the Chris Ivory signing. I was slapping myself until I saw he's only making 1 mill more than Gerhart did. I just hope he doesn't get more carries than Yeldon, I really want to see Yeldon do good here and he definitely showed some things last year even as a rookie. 

 

If we get Vernon then I'll be ecstatic for once in free agency. If we get Jenkins, I'll probably lose it... but I don't see that happening at this point. 

 

Vernon and some B level players seems likely at this point.
