Quote:disappointed we didnt get him. but i can understand having a limit on overpaying. we were gonna over pay him. the giants just went stupid money on him.How are they going to afford to keep OBJ? he will probably demand a contract of no less than $90 million. Vernon's a great player but this is stupid. We show less advertisements to registered users. Accounts are free; join today! Quote:More sacks than Vernon lol Vernon is a better player than Ayers is.
Almost have to take a swing at Ayers unless they have some sleeper in mind. Would rather have had Vernon but maybe this gives us more $$ to address C/G and secondary.
So the best available players left according to NFL.com:
8. Eric Weddle, FS 14. Sean Smith, CB 15. Jaye Howard, DE 16. Derrick Johnson, LB 17. Russell Okung, T 20. Prince Amukamara, CB 22. Reggie Nelson, FS 23. Ryan Fitzpatrick, QB 25. Chris Long, DE 26. Nick Fairley, DT 27. Derrick Shelby, DE 30. Arian Foster, RB 32. Robert Ayers, DE 34. Andre Smith, T 36. Kelvin Beachum, T 37. Walter Thurmond, SS 38. Mitchell Schwart, T 39. Ladarius Green, TE 40. 29 million for a dude that will get about 7 sacks in 2016.
Ayers actually outplayed Vernon last year. But he is 30.
Wanted Vernon. Oh well. That deal he got is making Von Miller salivate.

Vernon is good, but there's no way he's worth that much money. He'll get more guaranteed money than JJ Watt.
Quote:There's no reason to commit that kind of money to just 2 Players from 1 FA. No ones saying Vernon sucks now that we didn't get him. If we didn't get Jackson I would of been more inclined to make a splash with Vernon. That's how I'm feeling. Plus I have a friend who's a Dolphin fan... He says Vernon is good, but sometimes an [BLEEP] and wouldn't be the worst if he left.

With Olivier Vernon off board, I'd expect Robert Ayers to rise up priority list for #Jaguars. Ayers overlapped w/ Mario Williams market, too
Quote:Vernon is a better player than Ayers is. he most certainly is, he's younger too. The Jags really needed to get Vernon, the LEO position (again) is a big question mark heading into the season. This one hurts
I can only speak for myself on this...
But I'm not saying Vernon suddenly sucks. I'm not saying NYG is terrible for offering him that, though I disagree with the numbers. I'm simply saying that I understand our not getting him. Yes. Spend. Overpay. But there's a reasonable limit and NYG obviously drew that line further than we did. Bummed not to land him, but I'm OK with it. On to the next target.

If we didn't get Jackson I would of been more inclined to make a splash with Vernon. This. Vernon might be very good next year, but he might have 7.5 sacks again. I don't know if 30 million for next year is worth that production. I have never paid attention to him play, and I know he was high on all the FA lists, but 30 million for next year? That is, that is just soooo much money.

Tweet from Mike Kaye (@mike_e_kaye) - Again, I stick by my opinion all offseason. Vernon would have made the #Jaguars better but he wasn't the be all, end all game-changer.

And this is why I didn't follow him on Twitter. I knew he was going to use us as leverage. Oh well.
