Quote:I meant it wasn't so good for the Jags. There is no upside in one years deals.

What about motivating an injury prone player to play as hard as he possibly can in order to win another contract.

Quote:We had both E. Sanders and Ziggy Hood in together for a visit in 2015. Hood signed, Sanders walked. Malik seems like a natural leader, so maybe he can influence Ayers.

Thanks Debbie Downer.. we didn't have a proven QB when Sanders walked.

true that!

Quote:Sure there is. If he continues to struggle to perform well and stay healthy, they won't have any dead money on him.

That's an upside in my book in a guy like this.

I think ideally you'd hope for a shorter term deal, like two years, that would leave little to no guaranteed money on the table beyond this season. That way you can retain him at a set price if he does well or cut him loose with little to no repercussions if he doesn't perform.

Some guys just needed a change of scenery. Playing under the lights of NY then to Jax may be the best thing for him. This guy has been playing with Coughlin screaming at him for years.

Yeah. I'm good with one year. "Show me on Sunday."

Quote:Well, it's good for us in the fact that we get him for one season. But yeah, he's taking this deal with the expectation that he'll stay healthy/play his way into a big long term contract.
If his demand was that he would only take a one year deal then fine, but I would much rather have given him a multi year deal and take that risk that he gets hurt again. Especially with our cap space.

I'm happy we got him overall though.

One more for Jacksonville: DE Robert Ayers signs a three-year, $21m deal with $10.5m guaranteed.

WHO TO BELIEVE???

Edit: Looks like Rapoport is right, Garafolo deleted his tweet.

Having two of the top 5 FA left in the building and walking way with one year total is pretty disappointing.

<p class="">Robert Ayers visited the <a class="" href='https://twitter.com/hashtag/Jaguars?src=hash'>#Jaguars</a> today, but heads to the <a class="" href='https://twitter.com/hashtag/Bucs?src=hash'>#Bucs</a> tomorrow to sign his 3-year, $21M deal. Top pass-rusher off the market.
