***Official 2016 Free Agency Thread***

With our glaring hole on the interior, I wonder if we actually did convince him to be a guard at least in the short term.

Due to his knee, maybe teams are only offering 1-2 years at roughly $2-3 million per because they're worried about his ability to be effective this season, while we're offering him something like $6 million per season to play guard with a promise he can move to tackle in the event Joeckel struggles. He could cash in by playing guard with us and prove to the league that his knee is alright then hit the free agency again next season to try to cash in as a left tackle.

Or maybe we do just want to move on from Joeckel, but that still leaves us to figure out the interior of our line.

Beachum Cann Kelly Linder Parnell.

I like Beachum as an opportunity at LT so let's bring him in.

That said, Joeckel can't play inside, we'll still need a C or a G in case Cann or Linder go at C.

Ryan Kelly in the second could be really considered at this point to me.

I am going to be more disappointed if Beachum doesn't happen than I was with Irvin/Vernon/Ayers to be honest...and I'm one of the higher people on Joeckel.

Beachum visiting seems odd. Dave and Gus like Joeckel at LT and word is Beachum wants to start. Not sure why he would come here unless one of the two is moving to LG.

Just hope this ain't his agent seeing how much cash Dave is throwing around so he can use that as leverage against other teams.

Maybe we can trade Joeckel for a pass rusher.

Its not odd he'd be competition for Luke,if they stay healthy I'd wager Beachum would beat him out too. Gives us a quality backup in Luke.

I think it's pretty simple why they're bringing Beachum in, they're not as pleased with Joeckle as they have publicly said. You can't give up 5 sacks in one game and think you're going to be the unchallenged starter going into the next season. Beachum isn't coming here to be a backup, and he's not coming here to be a guard. He's coming here to push Joeckle for the starting job.

We're going to have to fight off the Jets, Ravens, and Seahawks for his servies...at least.

Two of those teams have left tackles already with a lot of money tied into them. They'll have to convince him that he'll be guaranteed a starting spot.

I agree that the coaching staff and Caldwell are not as happy with Luke as they claim to be. That being said, I doubt they guarantee Beachum a starting job at left tackle. Like everybody else, he'll be told that he has to compete with Luke for the starting spot. I really hope they sign him even if neither he nor Luke could be effective at the guard position. This signing would give us the depth necessary at tackle in case someone gets injured. They wouldn't have to spend a draft choice on a developmental tackle and could then focus on LEO, OTTO and the interior of the offensive line. Bottom line, offer this guy whatever it takes to get him to sign. He'll still cost a lot less than Osemele, Vernon and Irvin would have and fills a critical need.

Might the Jags have any interest in Courtney Upshaw - Ravens as a two down run stuffing Otto LBer?

The Otto comes off the field in nickel situations anyway.

Seems like Upshaw could be one of those bargain Free Agents that could actually be a strong contributor at the SLB spot, allowing Skuta to be in the Leo rotation.

Baltimore is such a great evaluator of talent. I'd be hesitant to sign anybody they let go. If he can't make it there, why would he make it here?

I believe Luke Joeckel is an above average run blocker, but not a premier pass blocker.

I think he could flourish at the OLG spot allowing Linder to move to Center.

Further, Dave Caldwell usually does not bring a player in for visit unless he is serious.

I could see a 6 to 8 Mil offer for a one year contract from the Jags.

I am wondering if this is about what Amukamara got for his one year deal.

Love the idea of offering the Jags Rd 2 to the Patriots for Chandler Jones, but then the Jags would have to pay him at least 15 Mil per season for those 12 sacks he got last season.

In B-more, Upshaw needs to be able to rush the passer because their 3-4 system is designed for just that.

In J-Ville, the Otto position is just a SLB that can hold the point of attack.

So the question you have to ask yourself is whether Upshaw could be an upgrade to Skuta at the Otto position?

I think Upshaw is stronger at the point of attack than Skuta, although I do think Skuta would be a better Leo than Upshaw.

So what will Upshaw get as a 2 down run stuffer?

If he gets more than 3 - 4 Mil he will be lucky and he could be had on a cheap 1 year prove it deal at Otto for say 2 to 2.5 Mil.

So weird when you consider that he was considered a great pass blocker and below average run blocker coming out

The Spread Offense has changed the way Offensive Left Tackles are evaluated.

No one doubts that Joeckel has quick feet, but he just has mental lapses that kill him.

It could be he just can't handle the pressure in his head when facing elite pass rushers.

<p class="">Free agent WR Mike Wallace scheduled to visit Baltimore on Monday. Ravens' interest still contingent on Wallace accepting a low-budget deal.
