Quote:And what I don't understand is after 3 years of Luke, this isn't the Ayers/Fowler situation. I'm pretty positive they said something along the lines of "Luke is the current starter, however if you play better than him in camp, you'll get the start" What you can ask for is, "We have a hole at LT. If you sign with us, you will be our LT." That is not the official company line. The official company line is "We have faith in Luke." So, he comes in here, and the situation is, he has to beat out the first draft pick of this regime, a player taken 2nd overall, a player the GM has said is out left tackle, a player both GM and coach have said they believe in. Or, he can go somewhere else, where they tell him, "If you sign with us, you will be our left tackle." We show less advertisements to registered users. Accounts are free; join today!

IT WAS ALWAYS THE JAGS
Yeah, if that's what went down I don't blame them for letting him walk. We aren't going to sign him to a 5 year 40 million contract anointing him the starter. It's where if he's healthy and thinks he can beat out Luke then he'll be the starter and get a big payday next year. If he doesn't like that then to heck with him.
I am sure no one was at his plane. And we were not beggin for him to come off the plane. That was just proppaganda to try and convince the next team he visits with. To jack up the price for his services.
However no team will believe that. So he is shooting himself in the foot!

Only ones of the signings that were guaranteed were Malik (and even he said that he's expected to move around) and Gipson (who really didn't have anyone to compete with). Quote:Then let him walk. If you're afraid that you won't be the starter because you can't beat him out then maybe you don't deserve to start.This. ^ Besides - these conversations aren't so black and white IMO. I think Dave is perfectly capable of making clear his expectations to an incoming FA. ie: "We fully expect that you'll take over the starting role at LT and Luke will become depth or catch on elsewhere if the right trade comes along. BUT - the guy who looks best in September gets the start and nothing's guaranteed." If a player needs more assurance than that.... see quoted post above. Quote:The guy is insane if he thinks that after a torn ACL in October he'll be assured of a starting job. Agreed, especially since he's not even 6 months removed from the injury. That doesn't mean he shouldn't try to secure a starting gig before signing somewhere. I think it's funny to see the usual suspects talking about what this like the front office has made some sort of mistake. Offering him a deal to COMPETE with Joeckel for the starting spot this year is reasonable. Odds are, he wins the competition. Joeckel is more or less insurance for the knee issue. Nothing more. But, the team isn't going to just hand him the starting job if he's not recovered enough to hold on to the gig. He hasn't signed anywhere, and that knee injury is more than likely going to have the same impact with any other teams he might visit with. It sounds like Pittsburgh is ready to move on, so as long as he hasn't signed elsewhere, I don't see this as a miss by the front office. Never argue with idiots. They drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.
Yesterday the Jaguars were saying they wanted Beachum to sign before he leaves, but that didn't happen. He's now back in Pittsburgh talking to the Steelers.

From what I've read, there doesn't seem to be a huge sense of urgency on Pittsburgh's part to get a deal done. It makes sense that he'd want to try to remain there. In the end, he may have to make other arrangements. Jax has made their case.

Quote:Steelers signed Ryan Harris.Wow. The Broncos are just continuing to get dismantled. Good thing they have Sanchez to lead them again to the promised land (sarcasm). It seems the Steelers aren't convinced that Beachum is there answer to start the season either. Ring...Ring.... Beachum's Agent: Hello? Caldwell: Dave here. I just noted that Ryan Harris just signed with the Steelers. Your options are becoming more limited now. Beachum's Agent: My client is considering his options, and thank you for the offer presented to us yesterday. Caldwell: The offer was yesterday. For each 12 hours period that passes, the offer value is reduced by $100,000 per year. I hope to hear from you soon. ...not reality, but was in my head. It seems those tweets yesterday were more a bluff from Beachum with the "help" of Josina Anderson rather than the Jags really wanting him that bad to call him back while on the airplane lol.
Do you guys think he is still in play to come here eventually or the fact he hasn't signed yesterday is significative and we moved on?
Well that helps, maybe he just wanted to sit down and make the right choice. i think beachum will be back here ti sign his contract.

Take this first what it's worth, can't confirm or deny, but my buddy who's a Steelers die hard said the feeling around there is he's back in town to talk with Munchak more so for advice on his move than trying to re-sign with Pitt.

@AdamSchefter Former Steelers' OT Kelvin Beachum reached agreement with Jacksonville, per league source.
Nice! Glad we ended up getting him. Assuming he recovers well, Joeckel should be on the bench at some point.
