Mariota Returning to Oregon Next Season

I was hoping he'd come out this season, looks like it's down to Bridgewater and Carr as the early first round prospects.

Probably a smart move on his part.

This is probably what is best for him as a prospect anyway. Hundley should follow suit.

EDIT: Actually the more I think about it, spending another year in a gimmick offense will probably only further entrench his poor mechanics and bad habits. I would come out now and start learning how to play big boy QB.

Not sure why people expected otherwise.  Bridgewater still might not declare, though that doesn't seem likely.  Even if we aren't in position to draft him, it might hurt who's available if he doesn't.

I was wrong about Trent Baalke.

Eh, there are so many variables that could harm his stock next season. He definitely needs refinement in some aspects of his game, but he was going in the top 10 in the upcoming draft. I'm not sure I'd risk the millions of dollars.

Bridgewater took out an insurance policy, which pretty much guarantees that he is coming out. I would expect him to wait until after the bowl game to officially declare though.

If Winston comes out next year he still wont be the first pick.

Smart move for Marcus.

Not gonna lie though:  I kind of wanted him to declare, so if a team like MINN had a higher selection than us they'd draft him, allowing another elite prospect to fall to our pick.

Ah well.

Good for him. He'll get a degree now, I believe.

Knew this QB class wouldn't pan out like it was predicted to. It usually never does.

Hoping Carr finds out he has spinal stenosis or something to lower the chance of us making that mistake.

I've also been saying for a long time now that he won't declare.

Where have you been? I've been missing some sanity in the CFB forum for a while!

I do most of my posting while at work and I was off for vacation the past week. Either way the more meaningless games we win the less and less I care about the Jaguars.

I really hope we lose out and if somehow we don't pick first, I hope we explore trading up to nab Teddy.

If we don't get the top QB prospect in this draft, we probably never will. We will take some project QB and end up winning 5-6 next year.

I have faith in Caldwell. I'm going to hold out hope until I see Teddy's name called by another team on draft day.

I have faith in Caldwell, but he is not some sort of draft god. He is limited by the picks he gets and what other GMs allow him to do. People seem to think any QB he takes is going to turn into a franchise guy because Caldwell took him. Which is silly.

There is only one sure QB in this draft and there is a limited amount of control Caldwell has over getting him.

Many people want to believe just because a player has a good reason to declare, he will, just because they love him as a prospect. That is nothing new. I have stayed out of the Marcus Mariota talks, so I have no idea what people love about him. But I do know Teddy Bridgewater is going to declare because his mom said so.

If I'm Hundley I'm thinking I should declare now.

Hopefully the Texans or some team we want to be bad takes him.
