It's time to put some numbers back in circulation

Punters are people too!

71, 28, 82, 8, 32 are out of circulation. The bold are the only ones that I think should be.

It means they will be going up on the ring of honor, if they already aren't.

Here's my plan:

When you have a guy worthy enough, retire his number for the number of years that he played for the Jaguars. When the time expires, invite him back for a pre-game ceremony before the first home game when he turns the number over to the new kid at midfield.

Everybody cheers the old guy one last time as he walks off the field. Not a dry eye in the house.

Good example: Rashean Mathis- good player, local kid, etc...probably worthy of special treatment but nowhere close to the Ring of Honor. He was a Jaguar for 10 years- retire his number for 10 years.

Put the person into the ring of honor....no need to retire the number.

I don't think any number should be retired. We have the ring of honor for local greats and we have HoF for league greats. Who cares about a jersey # when we cared about a player name.

You know.  Because punter's lives matter (I think I was supposed to put in a 'hash tag' somewhere).

Quite frankly, I think the whole "retired number" thing is dumb.  Just going from recent memory, I would maybe think that Pat Tillman's number might make the retired numbers list.  Off the top of my head, I can't think of any other NFL player's number that really earned it, no matter what team that they played for.  I'm sure there are others.

There are 10 kinds of people in this world.  Those who understand binary and those who don't.

this makes the most sense, local greats go to ROH......maybe one day a jag will make HOF.

Boselli comes as close as any.

In the mean time if someone has a jersey with say Jones-Drew, Brunell or Fred Taylor on it.........big deal it has his number on it..........it also has his name on the back. The name is what folks see....not the number.

I would love it if say a rookie takes #28 or #34 and lives up to what the number stands for.

No point in tying it up unless our past greats makes HOF.

None of the numbers should be retired. If you want to take them out of circulation for a year or two OK but then bring them back.

The only two that should have even been considered to take out of circulation for a year or two were 28 and 71. They both should be allowed to be used by now.

lol love the posts here. I was just a kid in 1999, but even I feel a strong sentiment when I see the old jerseys/numbers/names. Those guys made this team great so quickly, and I think that alone is enough to keep them out of circulation. Plus most WRs like wearing 10-19 nowadays anyway. QBs can pick from 1-19 as well as K/P. PLENTY of other #s to choose from.

Okay I actually think this is cool. The proverbial passing of the torch.

So 68 goes back in the rotation in 2018 after we fully honor the Beadles legacy.

Really don't care about the numbers either way.

Especially when a punter is involved.

Besides, even among those players who are both in the HOF and had their number retired, most of those had their number retired first.
