Jaylon Smith injured

Quote:Even with his recovery and being able to put that much weight up, it's almost a certainty he starts the year on IR. If it looks like he's guaranteed to recover 100% and it's not Marcus Lattimore 2.0, then I'm down to draft him. May be hard to drop a day 2 pick on him but I wouldn't hate it I suppose. It would be a risk and one we are unfortunately not in a position to take right now. Someone who can afford to let him sit will take him while still winning 11 games. The rich get richer. Quote:If bench pressing affects your knee, you're doing it wrong. Really, really wrong. I was referring to the 400 pound squats and 600 pound leg presses. Last time I checked, you used your legs for those. Read the whole article before composing your witty response next time. It should be worth the wait considering he'd be the perfect OTTO once healthy. I can't see Caldwell passing on Jack if he's still sitting there in round two, although he might have his eyes on Keanu Neal or Ryan Kelly with that pick.

I'm trying to make myself more informed and less opinionated.

I think the concern with him isn't immediate, but long term. I can't find the link for it, but I seem to recall an article talking about the nerve damage as having a more longer lasting effect. Sounds like he'll be a Pat then.

We'll get an update soon.Sounds like Lawson's shoulder checked out perfectly fine. There seems to be a bit of a legitimate worry with some anonymous teams about Jack, despite every doctor and trainer who has publicly gone on record (including some that were at rechecks today) has said he looks great. Smoke? Maybe...probably? Jaylon Smith's status didn't change, as expected. Nerve damage is far too unpredictable and too slow healing to have gotten a better picture after only a month from the bad combine reports. He is looking at more of a year to year recovery than a week to week or even month to month. Some people think he'll recover to what he was, or at least most of it. Some still think he's completely hands off. Fascinating story to watch unfold over the next year or two.
Obviously there's no way to know about Jack at the moment. His draft position will reflect what medical checks revealed. I am skeptical...
Sounds like he'll redshirt this year, so probably makes it unlikely he gets drafted before the 3rd/4th rounds. Even then, it's because they expect him to 100% recover. If no one does expect him to be 100%, he probably will go undrafted.
Quote:Sounds like Lawson's shoulder checked out perfectly fine. The most concerned teams are probably those picking in the teens...

He's gonna fall a lot probably. Sucks, but maybe we can snag him late.

Mayock has him ranked #1 and he's injured and still ranked #1, Jack #2. Please draft the better LB with the 5th overall pick Calwell, LB Jaylon Smith

Written by Will Carroll, the guy who's twitter I posted who talked to the GM who said they'd consider Jaylon after round 5 if the medical recheck went well... <div>Scott Austin @Boyzguru88 1h1 hour ago @dpbrugler I am curious what @injuryexpert thinks about Jacks knee <div> <div> <div> <div> Will CarrollVerified account@injuryexpert @Boyzguru88 @dpbrugler He's fine. Meniscus repair that went well. I'd have no hesitations. </div> </div> </div> </div> </div>
If I'm a GM, unless my team doctors explicitly say he's never going to be close to the player he once was if he ever even plays again, I'd still take him with my first pick on day three. I'd argue that the gamble on him returning to form would be similar if not better than a day three player approaching his pre-injury level.
Either way, he's going to a big story on draft weekend, though we likely won't know the ending for another few years. |
