If they reached..

Reggie Williams was a reach even though he was mocked to go to the Jags, because a top-tier player was still available.

Yet I get roasted for suggesting Fowler was the same scenario.

Oh, Fowler.

Quote:So, to be clear, my definition of a reach is passing over a better player for a lesser player, and the GM knowing that he did that and doing it on purpose.
So then the incompetent and inept GM who unwittingly and disastrously arranges his board is incapable of reaching, since, in his eyes, he doesn't KNOW that he is drafting a lesser player over a better player?

In other words, Gene Smith did not reach in taking Tyson Alualu over guys like Jason Pierre Paul and Earl Thomas because he honestly thought Alualu was the best player on his board?

Worst to 1st.  Curse Reversed!

You mean Leonard Williams?

I thought so too, but in fairness there were several pundits who rated (not just mocked) Fowler over Williams.

There are always those trying to grab attention by going outside the box, and there will always be.  Otherwise, it's hard to honestly think he was graded higher than Williams or Cooper.  We willingly passed them for need, and for a guy that probably better fit a 3-4.

Again, many folks didn't bother questioning the pick since that's where everyone had him mocked.  The Florida kid to the Florida team.  IMO, he would have been a better "fit" for a 3-4 team.

Put a player like that in different schemes, and he deserves different grades.  But, the TwitterScoutsTM are too lazy to do that kind of legwork.  IMO, he would grade higher as a rush OLB than RDE.

Quote:To me a reach at 5 would be someone you could have at 15 or later.
Reaching for a player is drafting a player within the first round that you could've drafted within the second round...

NH3...

That's not a reach. That's an abomination.

That is my definition.

In my definition, reaching is intentional.   Bad picking is not the same as reaching in my definition.

By the way, I'm kind of amused with the way you used both incompetent and inept to describe Gene Smith.   As if there might by any slight gap in "incompetent" you overlaid it with the synonym "inept" just in case.
