Ted Cruz Could Win the General Election

#21

Quote:Harry Reid "shut down" the government by refusing to allow a Senate vote on the House spending bill.

It's not as politically effective to say that a few thousand employees that we really shouldn't be paying for anyway got the day off.

Although every essential part of the government kept running, so calling it a "shutdown" is a gross exaggeration.

I knew quite of few folks that work at Kirkland AFB in New Mexico that would describe it as a shut down...  There were alot of government contractors that lost paychecks for this stunt.

I'm sorry, but tying a spending bill to repealing Obama Care was a reckless and stupid, not to mention dishonest stunt.  Remember, the whole crux of the shut down was to try and get Obama and the democrats to repeal Obama-Care...  That was the whole point of the stupid stung that Cruz orchestrated.

"During the shutdown, approximately 800,000 federal employees were indefinitely furloughed, and another 1.3 million were required to report to work without known payment dates. Only those government services deemed "excepted" under the Antideficiency Act were continued; and only those employees deemed "excepted" continued to report to work.[2] The previous U.S. federal government shutdown was in <a class="" href='https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_federal_government_shutdowns_of_1995%E2%80%9396' title="United States federal government shutdowns of 1995–96">1995–96</a>.[3][4] The 16-day-long shutdown of October 2013 was the third-longest government shutdown in U.S. history, after the 18-day shutdown in 1978 and the 21-day 1995–96 shutdown."

Who gives a flip about these commies, right?   LOL, you guys are crazy sometimes...  Good for Ted Cruz for making sure that right towards the beginning of the holiday season a paycheck was lost for a few million american workers based on a political game of chicken he knew he couldn't win.  But heck, it sure did help him get his name out there in the pre-launch towards a presidential campaign.  So, yeah, he's a real American that has the best interest of his fellow citizens himself in mind.   :whistling:

That we have millions of government workers merely highlights the problem.

1. Non-essential government services should not exist. Those jobs shouldn't be there to begin with.

2. The Dems controlled the Senate in 2013, so blaming a shutdown on Cruz is a flat out lie. The Republican House passed a budget bill. They did their job. Harry Reid refused to allow the House budget to even come to a vote in the Senate.
And the House passed several temporary bills to get those people who's lack of paychecks you are lamenting back on the payroll, but those bills were also shut down in the Dem-controlled Senate.

Dude, you're killing me, Malabar... the dems didn't have control of the house of reps!

They were the dummies that followed the orders of the Cuban Canadian, and kept trying to cut out Obama care within the budget bill.

It was a stupid move, and caused a bunch of people to lose money. All on a political stunt that had no chance of working.

As for there being too many government workers, that's a policy opinion which shouldn't be a reason to not care that American workers that have been hired by the government didn't get paid.

That's just silly. Not to mention just anti American. I've been taught, like we all have, that you pay your debts and you keep up your end of a deal.

And how was SENATOR Ted Cruz giving orders in the House of Representatives? He was not exactly a favorite of the DC elite.

Really, you should applies some logic to the claims you parrot.

Like I said, there were House bills that funded the non-essential workers. Harry Reid refused to consider them until the full budget was passed. It was the Democrat-controlled Senate, and specifically Harry Reid, who put their political aims ahead of the government workers.

To my knowledge, whenever. SHUTDOWN occurs all the backpay gets made up. No one actually lost money. Public sector unions would never allow that.

There is that, which is good. But interest still accumulated from those debts that were due. 2 weeks in this economy without any pay, when things are really tight can affect things, even if a few months the line you get paid back.

I tore my Achilles in October, trust me, I know what it's like to miss a paycheck. It's tough.

At the end of the day, workers got hosed for a stupid trick a politician did in order to ramp up his run for presidency. That Cuban Canadian only cares about himself, and can go kick rocks for all I care.

Lastly, some websites report that up to 15,000 government workers never got paid back...

The Cuban Canadian wants a theocracy.  Apparently this is okay because it's not a specific kind of theocracy.

He said that he identifies with his religion first, and as an American second.  I wonder how the reaction would be if Shad Khan had said this.

Actually, there are many people that believe this way in this country.  "God, Family, Country" is pretty common.  I know that there are many like you that oppose religion, especially if it happens to be a certain one.  The fact of the matter is that one's beliefs helps to guide their decisions in life.  I don't find faith in a certain religion to be a negative when I choose a candidate, especially if that particular faith teaches lessons that I am aligned with.

I don't want to turn this discussion to religion since it would violate the CoC on this forum, but I will argue that his beliefs are not really a problem for this country.  I highly doubt that he wants to turn our government into a theocracy and have seen no evidence to back up that claim.

There are 10 kinds of people in this world.  Those who understand binary and those who don't.

Unless something big happens the way I see it based on polls (which could change as each state gets closer to election day like WI went towards Cruz in less than 3 weeks)...b

ut if the polls stay the same...

Trump gets the 1,237 delegates even worst case scenario where he loses all states that he isnt winning by over 10% + in polls.. he'll still get 1,247 delegates to win on the first vote...

worst case Ted Cruz is the guy...

No way is it anyone other than Ted Cruz or Donald Trump (which have very similar views on many things... so if you support one or the other it should still be a win)!

Quote:Cruz has a voting record that backs up his rhetoric. Whether you like his policies or not is a different story, but he was/is the only candidate other than Rand Paul who would cut government spending.
I believe he would cut it, but only from social services, not from the defense contracting/big corporate tax credits, which is a much bigger problem IMO. If your gonna waste money, at least spend it on Americans, not building bombs to goto wars we don't need or subsidizing corn(why?).

Don't get me wrong, I support cutting back on basically everything but Social Security (cause you deserve back what you put in), but I don't like the current GOPe policy of only going after seniors, veterans, and poor for their cuts. We shouldn't be giving tax refunds in excess of what people and especially huge corporations like GE put in.

Teds 10% tax plan is a joke that will get dumped the moment the election is over. I want the IRS gone as much as anyone else, but you have to tax at the effective rate, not some made up % (effective is around 18% for most citizens). And you have to make it for corporations also. We may have a 'high' sticker corporate tax rate, but in reality the 'net rate' is one of the lowest. A flat rate would be better for all involved, but I doubt 10% is enough to get rid of our debt.

The bail out bills are seriously sickening that both Bush Jr & Obama signed...

Meanwhile our infrastructure is failing from Bridges to Electrical plants and wires....

Ford is sending more jobs over to Mexico ... Carrier did it earlier I expect Trump to make comments about it too....

I wonder how many Kasich voters would go Donald Trumps way instead of Ted Cruz if he had dropped out?

If you add Kasich votes to Trump he wins WI for example...
