Trump Can't Win

The thing that Trumpettes can't seem to get out of their minds is, it's going to a contested convention and Trump will not win.  They (as well as Trump) seem to be unable to come to the conclusion that the republican party does not want him as the nominee.

Trump can run as an Independent and might possibly siphon some of the republican vote (ala Ross Perot), but I doubt that it would be enough.

IF he does get enough votes for a first round win in the convention, then say hello to President Hillary.  There will be enough republican voters (including me) that don't bother showing up to vote and/or choose to write in a candidate.

I actually think that this was the plan all along...

Actually... Private companies made it happen the government just paid for it. And it was over budget.

Trump can't win in Colorado, because they didn't even vote.  The Delegates simply took all of Ted Cruz's bribes, very corrupt.

lol ... you're working hard to cover for your boy, aren't you?

If Donald could only read - and wasn't so lazy. Being a rich man I guess he thought he could just show up, say "Make America great again!" and win the Party's nomination. Actually figure out what the rules are? That's for losers!

Not very corrupt, just very stupid.

All this is doing is pushing Trump harder to run as an independent. He will take all of his voters with him as well. The GOP should have just embraced what was happening, and now they appear screwed.

I will write in my own name before I fill out a bubble next to Mr. Bean's name. This guy is the epitome of what is wrong with US politics.

I'm certainly no fan of Ted Cruz, but I'm not sure what you mean by he is "the epitome of what is wrong with US politics." He's just playing the game like everyone else. It's his policies that suck, not his politics.

I wouldn't be so sure about The Donald running as an independent. He'd have to spend his own money - no money or resources from the Party. Like most rich people I'm sure he'd much rather spend someone else's cash - like yours or mine.

There are a couple of things wrong with this.

Fundamentally, the majority of the GOP doesn't side with Trump, and I don't see much fall-off IF he decides to run as an Independent in the general election.  Of course, that will depend a lot on which candidate does get the eventual nomination.  If it's someone like Bush or Kasich, then say hello to President Hillary.  If it's someone like Rubio, then say hello to President Marco.  I just don't see the GOP getting behind Cruz, although it could happen.  If it's Cruz, I think that he could win.

Second of all, if he chooses to run as an Independent, he needs to do it quickly.  If he waits until the convention or after, it will be too late for him to make it onto the final ballot in some states.  There is really no way that he would have a realistic chance of winning.  His hope (and I suspect why he is even in the race) is for Hillary to win.  I believe that Donald Trump running on a Republican platform is part of the Hillary machine to get her elected.

You don't see much fall off?  Really?  The dude won 35% + in the south...  THE SOUTH!  You know, the whole basis of the republican party since Nixon is to appease the dixie-crats that left the Democratic party after the Civil Rights revolution of the 60s...  It's called the Southern Strategy.  And it's a real thing.

If those people don't come out to vote, Hillary wins in a land slide...  I mean, come on...  you're  just wishful thinkin', right?

And he doesn't have to announce his independent run quickly at all.  That's not the point.  The point is that he's a disruptor.  His whole campaign as been similar and the anti-thesis of Bernie Sanders this entire time.  The thing is, Republicans are more radicalized than the establishment democrats (unfortunately...).  Republicans have been indoctrinated for years now to be upset with everyone, including republicans in the House and Senate.  Heck, Cruz called the majority leader a liar.  LOL, that's awesome, except you make your entire base distrust EVERYONE.

Let's face it, the entire Republican Party has realized they cannot tolerate Trump.  The problem is that they didn't account for the chickens coming home to roost. The divorce from Trump will alienate the 35% of your party that you guys exploited for the last 40 years...  Ted Cruz isn't gonna gobble up those people.

Cruz is a fundamentalist radical.  His support comes from Glenn Beck listeners and the like.  That's his base.  GLENN BECK...  A guy too crazy for Fox News...  FOX NEWS!

You think moderate republicans are gonna vote for him?  Nope.  They'll just stay home.  It's a landslide if Cruz steals the nomination.

Let that sink in for a minute.

Trump doesn't have to put a penny into an independent run like Monty Brewster did. He can use social media and take his base with him. Like the poster said above, Cruz isn't going to get them.

Trump has the GOP by the testicles.

I'll admit Donald Trump wasn't as savvy as Ted Cruz in the ways of the corruption in the Republican Party, but shouldn't it always be about what the voter majority wants and not what some elite powerful rich democrats or Republicans tell us?

It's not even so much a statement pro-trump as I was trying to make that I hate the two-party system that exists.  I wish politicians couldn't run for any particular party but rather stood on their own merit & promises kept to their citizens that elected them.

So you're saying that the greatest system of republican government ever created is faulty and you have a better idea. Good luck with that. Let us know what you're doing to improve things - other than complain on a football message board.

You clearly don't know how the party system works. And your cliche about "corruption" and "elite powerful rich democrats or Republicans" is laughable - these are people who have worked for years in the party and are probably your neighbors and coworkers. The idea behind a Party is to win elections. Competition via the arena of political ideas. Your idea seems to be let the richest man win. I don't think most Americans would go for that.
