But Caldwell is trying to build this team and get the best pieces he can. If he thinks Tunsil is a far superior prospect, which wouldn't shock me, all I'm saying is people shouldn't act like it's so crazy. Guy has been viewed as the best guy in this draft for a while now. If he's there at 5, and our top 2 defensive guys are off the board and we aren't enamored with Bosa, Tunsil has a solid chance at being the backup plan if Ramsey and Jack are gone.

 

I wouldn't have a problem with the pick. As someone pointed out, Parnell is not a long-term solution and could be kicked inside to guard. Tunsil could play right tackle for a year or Beachum could be moved there. Joeckel could be packaged to move into the late first round or early second to grab an edge rusher. Tunsil would solidify the line and make the offense borderline elite.

I don't think Tunsil will or should be the pick. If he is on the board somehow we will have a tradeback opportunity because the Ravens will be all over him.


In the OPs scenario I would take Bosa and be happy knowing I made an immediate impact pick for my coach on the hot seat.

QB, WR, TE, OT, 3/5 T, and WILL...a top 3 round pick on any of those would constitute a luxury pick to me.

Rt, OG, OG/C, QB, 3T, WILL, FS is what I would constitute as luxury. You can't possibly put LT in our situation unless you can guarantee Beachum is fine. Joeckel is gone after next year, we aren't picking up his option and someone will start him at LT if we wont.

Looks like more and more mocks have Jack, Ramsay and Bosa all gone by Jax pick. This is truly the worst case scenario for them. It is hard to believe that both Cleveland and Dallas pass on the 2nd q.b., but if this happens Caldwell needs to get on the phone. There has got to be some team in the top 15 that is willing to part with their 2nd rounder to move up for Tunsil or Goff/Tunsil. He should then take the BAP with the top 15 pick; could be Hargreaves, Floyd, Lawson or Dodd. If it's Hargreaves, he must then move back into the first and take a pass rusher. I would take the risk and grab Spence since he has the most upside. Hargreaves, Spence and then an OTTO in the 3rd (Jordan Jenkins or Perry from Ohio State). They can then take the best interior lineman in the 4th round to compete at guard since they seem set to move Linder to center.

Listen man, no one is saying LT is our biggest need. No one is saying we don't desperately need defense.


What we're saying is LT isn't locked down and it's not a luxury pick. If we aren't high on Bosa or the defensive players available it wouldn't be crazy if we went this route. I don't want it to happen, but I'm not going to be upset if we did if Jack and Ramsey are gone. I like Bosa but I don't view him in the same regard.

You think Dave gives a craps what Gus thinks? Deep down, Dave has to know Gus isn't the guy. He isn't drafting to save Gus' job. That is why you draft BAP and not for need.

Beachum Luke Linder Cann Parnell would be just fine. We lack defensive playmakers. Jack Bosa or Ramsey should and most likely will be our 1st round pick. Dave isn't dumb.

This utopia doesn't exist in today's NFL. NFL teams will get pressure no matter how great your oline is. Literally all you need is 'good enough' at all 5 spots and you are just as good as any other line. 

 

Remember all the tons and tons of time the oline dream teams the Cowboys, Browns, and Eagles were supposed to give Romo, McCoy/Weeden, and Vick/Foles? Yeah, I seem to remember all of them running for their lives and all of them also getting hurt. Oh yeah and I don't remember any of those teams winning a whole lot either.

We already went from sergio to gipson, alualu to malik, clemons to fowler, Gratz to amukamara. This defense still needs better depth and some more talent, but there's no reason this defense should be as poor next year as this year's defense.
