It's rare that teams rescind the Franchise tag on a CB, especially considering how important he was to their Super Bowl run. Their GM said the distraction of a holdout wasn't worth it. His demands must be outrageous.

Secondly, he's 29 years old by season's end. He won't be too far away from being in decline.

Furthermore, I want nothing to stand in the way of retaining as much of our young offensive talent as possible.

If we DO sign him, I hope it is very short term-no more than 2 years. But somehow I suspect he wants something longer term.

It wont hurt our future signings for Blake and the crew, this is the money we were gonna spend anyways, we will still have 2nd most cap in the NFL if we sign him

Panthers Dline to ours isn't comparable talent wise, I love our signings and picks but the Panthers is a diff level.

Ummm you clearly don't know how the salary cap works. Signing bonus and salary are handled separately in terms of how it's claimed each year. And unless there are roster bonuses, you couldn't structure it the way he said. SB is spread evenly over the course of the contract ($50 million over 5 years would be $10 million/year) + salary each year.

You can't say to the NFL cap boss, "We guaranteed him $50 million and we paid him $51 million before we cut him so we don't have any dead money left." The remaining SB amortization would still have to be claimed in full as soon as he's released.

Guaranteed money is only applicable to SB. Salary isn't guaranteed.

Josh Norman

–Held DeAndre Hopkins to 2 catches for 24 yards on 7 targets - I love House but he torched House and everybody else in the NFL

–Held Vincent Jackson to 2 catches for 31 yards on 6 targets, picking off one pass.

–Held Mike Evans to 1 catch for 15 yards on 5 targets in the other meeting with the Bucs.

–Held T.Y. Hilton to 1 catch for 15 yards on 3 targets, breaking up the other 2.

–Held Dez Bryant to 1 catch for 6 yards on 5 targets.

–Held Julio Jones to 9 catches for 113 yards across 2 games (half Jones’ per-game average). - Julio was an animal last year and he held him to this in 2 games



Norman may not be perfect, but last season was about as close to shutdown play as cornerback play gets in today’s NFL.

So which teams should be picking up the phone and moving money around as we speak?



Jacksonville Jaguars: The Jags somehow still have money to burn, with around $53 million in cap space, and their best corner is Davon House. Norman would represent a monster signing for the team, which has shown willing as recently as a month ago to overpay in order to snag a key target.



San Francisco 49ers: New head coach Chip Kelly may not have personnel control in San Francisco like he did in Philadelphia, but the 49ers could emulate his big splash at corner from last season — Byron Maxwell — but on a far more accomplished player this time in Norman. The 49ers have the cap space, and their best corner is Tramaine Brock. This is a side that would be massively upgraded by Norman coming on board.



Tennessee Titans: The Titans took themselves out of the running for Jalen Ramsey when they traded away the top pick of the draft, but they could get a better corner in Norman and still have their trade bounty. OK, it would cost them a heck of a lot more in contract terms, but this is a team that still has the cap space to make it work, and would represent a massive offseason coup if they could pull it off, immediately giving them a talented defense to support second-year QB Marcus Mariota.

Good thing we didn't trade Carolina the 3 1st round picks or whatever it was that Ryan wanted us to ship away to Carolina for Norman.

It didn't sound like we wanted Irvin, and I will be happy that Ayers signed somewhere else if we sign Norman. We will be able to use that money on Norman, and still improve greatly on the edge in the draft. I'd rather have it work out that way.
