MERGED - NORMAN-MANIA!

Quote:The problem with this article (as well as pretty much any politically or agenda driven article these days), is that they conflate correlation and causation. One of the first rules you learn in statistics is that correlation does not equal the causation. The most logical conclusion to be drawn from that article is that the teams that spend in free agency tend to be bad teams. That doesn't mean that free agency by itself causes them to be bad. I was about to say the same thing but you said it perfectly. Good post. We show less advertisements to registered users. Accounts are free; join today! Quote:So 1 positive example to 10 negative examples? So you saying it can't happen still? Alot of teams sign big money guys. Giants,Patriots, Seahawks,Ravens,Denver, Chiefs, and Jets all come to mind over the past few years and have had success. But because the eagles, dolphins, bucs can't scout free agents then anyone who signs free agents now is dumb. We have $$$$$ what are we supposed to do with it, just sit on it every year and wait until we draft 4 superstars in one class or go out and pay probowl players to build around Bortles,Robinson,Hurns,yeldon,linder,Cann,Fowler,Smith,Colvin,#5.
Quote:Peyton Manning,Owen Daniels,TJ Ward,Aqib Talib,Emmanuel Sanders,Demarcus Ware,Evan Mathis, and if you want to include him....Brandon Marshall. All free agents that started for Denver but people bash spendingthe broncos have elite draft picks to go along with those free agents though
RT @RapSheet: Josh Norman has signed a 5-year contract with the #Redskins worth $75M, source said.

$51 million guaranteed? Somehow I don't think the skins are going to get anything close to their money's worth.

But, wait, have you guys not read O'Halloran today? He says we should've given Norman a blank check. What a crock.
Quote:$51 million guaranteed? Somehow I don't think the skins are going to get anything close to their money's worth. They absolutely won't but will we get our money's worth out of Jackson? Will the Giants get their money's worth out of all their big signings? It's the nature of free agency these days. The Redskins are a better team now then they were a few days ago (not an expert on their cap situation but I can see that contract hindering them in the future). I was one who really wanted Norman but not for that contract.

It's good fun reading Alfie these days, he's like in permanent meltdown mode since FA
![]() Yesterday in particular he was complaining about people whining about anything, while he spent the entire day complaining on twitter about the Norman situation. ![]() If the draft won't go as they wish the bcc crowd will be so fun to follow.
Will Josh Norman have another Pro Bowl year this season (very likely) but should GM Dave Caldwell have paid him all that money...
that I guess is hard to truly tell... i mean yes the Jaguars have the cap space.. but first off who knows maybe Josh didn't even want to come here which is possible... and he's turning 29 soon.. so.. probably was a smart move by Dave.. not to sign him.
The Redskins history in the last 20 years or so has been big ticket signings or mega trades have rarely worked out. Based on the contract they gave Josh Norman, the chances are good history will repeat itself.

Quote:Will Josh Norman have another Pro Bowl year this season (very likely) but should GM Dave Caldwell have paid him all that money... From what I've seen mentioned on Twitter and elsewhere, Dave made a call, had a brief chat w/ his Agent, they were not close at all on expected contract values, he said have a nice day, and both parties moved on. Dave, unsurprisingly, did not feel Norman was worth 50mil Guaranteed. I don't blame him, honestly. I like Norman. A lot. He was fun to watch last year, and I think he's a really good corner. Last year was the only time he performed at that level, in a Contract Year, when all was going right for his team. Would he be the same player here? I don't know. How much of it was the Panther's scheme? I guess we'll find out. I'd have been happy if we signed Norman, even at those numbers (we have a ton of cap space, and it's not MY money.. not really), but I'm not heartbroken at all. Thursday. That's what I'm excited about.
