***Jaguars Select Jalen Ramsey in the 1st round of NFL Draft***

Quote:Really quick.

Ramsey is not a playmaking corner.

Can be a great Strong Safety, like Eric Berry.

Not worth pick 5 for corner.

However I will admit if I am wrong.
stupid opinion.... it really is. Idk or care your wrong, but stupid, you are.

Hopefully he has a season worthy of being named the DROY.

He can't play corner for jack sh*t
That's kind of the brilliance of the pick. If he can't hang at corner, that's cool. You've got a top notch safety.

USA TODAY WROTE:

5. Jacksonville Jaguars – Jalen Ramsey, DB, Florida State: He's got a very good claim he's the best defender in this draft. Ramsey joins a Jags defense that allowed the most points in the AFC (448) in 2015. A former tracker star with freakish athletic ability, Ramsey has the versatility to guard anyone from slot receivers to tight ends. He can play press coverage or deep safety. The only knock on him was a modest ability to turn the ball over as he had just three interceptions in three years with the Seminoles. He told me during a pre-draft interview he wants to play throughout the secondary and would also like the opportunity to return kicks to provide him additional opportunities to get his hands on the ball.

The Jaguars get a gift with Jalen Ramsey dropping to them after the Chargers and Cowboys passed him up. He could be a special player at either cornerback or safety. Some wonder about his relatively low number of interceptions. But few talent evaluators doubt that he will be a major NFL contributor. — Mark Maske

What he brings: He tested off the charts at the combine and deserved to go in the top-three of this draft. He played corner in 2015 but I think he’s best served as a playmaking safety going forward. That said, he’s an excellent corner but he can be in a different stratosphere at safety in the right scheme. He has length, football IQ and playmaking ability. His safety instincts are just so far off the charts, to be honest, that he’s at his best when his team moves him all over the formation. And teams can do that better when he’s at safety. — John Harris

This is a dream scenario for the Jaguars. Ramsey is arguably the best position player in this draft. Jaguars coach Gus Bradley comes from Seattle, where they covet long corners. He's a special athlete; he ran track, won the ACC long jump title, ran the opening leg of the 4x100-meter relay. He's got catch-up speed like I haven't seen. He has a different skill set. This is a different cat, and he's got a "wow" factor."

Quote:Think it was a bigger shock that Bosa went 3rd imo

It's one of those subjective opinion situations.  For me,  I was shocked the Chargers took Joey Bosa.   He was probably no higher than 5th on my list of the players I thought they would take.

On the other hand,  though I thought the Cowboys would take Jalen Ramsey,  Ezekiel Elliott was 2nd or 3rd on my list of players I thought they would take.

There were many huge surprises for me in the 1st Round but once Ramsey was there for the Jaguars,  it was a no brainer unless the team got a great trade down opportunity.   Ramsey's NFL potential appears enormous.   Great pick!

We are all still in shock - I swear I was waiting for some crazy pick - like the long snapper from Akron - then I remembered GS was gone..Cue J Buckley's version of "Halleluah"

Everyone GM Dave Caldwell, HC Gus Bradley & DC Todd Wash said that Jalen Ramsey will compete for Outside starting cornerback role... and if he gets it he'll remain there no safety, nickel, etc

"It's all about long, press corners," Mayock said of Bradley's scheme. "That's what this kid is. ... he might be gifted enough that he could cover Dez Bryant one week and then go inside and cover (Rob) Gronkowski the next. That's how special he is."

Those are some big time words. Hope he can keep up with Randall Cobb week 1.

If these reviews don't get you excited for picking Ramsey I don't know what will...  House, Ramsey, Prince, and Colvin/McCray is legit.  With Gipson as FS, I think we actually have our secondary set and ready for a run.

Welcome to the Jungle Ramsey!
