It's not like they have the cap room to overpay him. I would say that's it's very unlikely he returns to Washington next season.

 

 

The Skins are poised to be up against the cap. They are going to have trouble resigning him and the tag is almost out of the question.

Caldwell said that he wasn't "shopping him"  he didn't say he didn't talk to other teams once he was contacted by Baltimore.  He, in fact , confirmed exactly the opposite in a Q&A with O'halloran (or another T-U writer.)  Can't find the link because of new Jacksonville.com subscription requirement.  I posted it when it happened, though.

 In all of the years I've followed the NFL,   I can't recall a G.M. ever saying publicly what some claim that Dave Caldwell expressed.  This is yet another example why it's best to question something if it doesn't make sense than automatically believe it.

Not to derail the thread but instead of making one for every free agent, one guy I hope the jaguars will pony up for is Brian Orakpo. Get the QB in the draft, add a dominant edge rusher in FA, and then that oline needs to be taken care of. 

 

I guarantee David Caldwell would rather draft an OLB in May. That is what he said he would do from the beginning: get most players from the draft and fill in gaps with cheap free agents.

Back to reality though, I wonder if maybe Orakpo would want a different culture / locker room of which he would like to be a part. Maybe if that is an option for him, he would concede a bit on his monetary demands and come to Jacksonville. Probably won't work out that way, but it's a nice thought.

Orakpo is a unique situation because he's an elite talent, just now coming into his prime, playing for a team that can't really afford to keep him. I hope Khan fires up the jets when it's time because elite pass rushing talents don't grow on trees and it would be one less position that needs addressing moving forward.

I heard something interesting on XM radio today. They were talking about how Houston might have trouble landing a big name coach, especially if he has to go with a rookie QB. But then they brought up Gruden (of course) and he might want someone like Cutler and then draft Clowney.

Well jacksonville has a lot of money available. you have to keep in mind its tax free in florida too, so that helps. at only 27 years old. he would theoretically still be in his prime when the window for the rebuild is complete in a couple years. i think if you throw him into the wide 9 style defense that we run now, he would be a real force up front.

  Here's my 2 cents:

 

 With Dave Caldwell having a very extensive background under highly competent GM's,  I'm confident that he wouldn't have traded Eugene Monroe for 4th and 5th Round picks without having a good idea what Monroe's market value is.  Time will tell if Caldwell makes enough good personnel choices to have the success that Jaguars fans are hoping for.  But Caldwell isn't an amateur.
