A three-year starter for the Razorbacks, Allen really came on in the second half of his senior year to open the eyes of scouts. In fact, the Fayetteville native, son of the school's director of high school and NFL relations, and one-time Arkansas High School Player of the Year improved each year. He completed less than 50 percent of his passes for 1,552 yards and 13 touchdowns as a sophomore, hit 56 percent of his passes for 2,285 yards and 20 scores in 2014, and then connected on 66 percent of throws in 2015 for 3,340 yards and 30 touchdowns (against just eight interceptions). ANALYSIS

STRENGTHS Showed substantial growth as field leader and play­maker. Comfortable under center and is effective on bootlegs and rollouts. WEAKNESSES Smallish frame takes hard hits when he runs. Benefited from play-­action based passing attack. Just over 40 percent of his dropbacks were out of play­-action. Rarely looks to take deep shots down the sideline against man coverage. Not asked to get through very many progressions and brings safeties to his throws by staring down his targets. Could make life easier by moving safeties around with his eyes. When pocket heats up, he will drop eyes and look to bolt.

BOTTOM LINE Allen was an afterthought headed into this season but garnered draft attention with high­-end production and a substantial spike in his play. On one hand, he is smaller than teams usually like and operated out of a play-­action offense that didnt ask him to get through many progressions. On the other hand, Allen has a quick release, an NFL arm, solid accuracy and good mobility. Allen needs to find the right home and eliminate his tendency to stare down targets, but he has enough talent to become an NFL backup.

In all honesty he was a good QB. Was in a lot of high scoring games last year. The Ark-Ole Miss game was one of the more entertaining ones last year

Probable scenario - Solid Backup at the most important position on team.

 

Best Case Scenario - Tom Brady.

Im not "rd 1-3 gushy" over the pick, but I'm not mad at all for the pick, especially if the gm thinks he can play and maybe if theres even the slightest possibility, that theres even a chance, of this guy becoming a "best case scenario."   

 

Drew Bledsoe was the guy in NE, there was no debate about it. Didnt stop the pats from still drafting a qb late rd from Michigan, and all was history from there.

 

I'm not saying this is what there thought process is in this pick, this is just the perspective i take from it, and why i like it to be honest.

 

But from the tape ive seen, and the numbers he's put up (of late especially), I see guy running a pro offense, with impressive efficiency seeing the field, looked off intended targets, checked down to 3rd & 4th options, tight throws in the middle of field/coverage accurate deep balls, good selling play action, nice composure throwing & setting up screens and stepping up in the pocket, just to name a few.

 

Oh and the success he had at QB, was in the SEC. That cant and shouldnt be overlooked.

He looks like he can play a little bit. They probably also liked his personality and believe he could be boys with Blake...a locker room thing. He probably won't win the backup job for this year, but hopefully for future years.

Dude is 6'1". You have to be great to overcome that height at the QB position. Henne's job isn't in jeopardy. Clearly a camp arm.

I think it was Gus saying the offensive coaches loved this guy during the Senior Bowl.  Had great leadership, etc.... He was a really good player last year, there is no question about it.  I doubt he'll ever be a top of the line starter, but he could develop into a quality backup the way Chase Daniel has.  

 

Personally I would have rather they drafted one of the offensive lineman that were still available.  A number of really good, high accolade interior lineman available at this spot.  Oh well.
