Which Jags vet are not making the roster this year?
|
The position battles this year should be fun to watch, I think we will start seeing more and more talented players not make this football team, that's how it should be

Quote:Who is going to back up Tashawn at FS guys? Tashaun Depends on who wins the job in training camp. Quote:TashaunNot sure I'm comfortable with Evans or Loston
Quote:Who is going to backup Tashawn at FS guys?? Maybe Nick Marshall or Peyton Thompson. If it's for extended time maybe even perhaps Jalen Ramsey. I sure hope it's not Evans
Quote:Not sure I'm comfortable with Evans or Loston I am not comfortable with them either, but we can't cut them without signing safeties from other teams. We show less advertisements to registered users. Accounts are free; join today!
Quote:My probably inaccurate predictions.I was thinking Henne and maybe Myers as well. I think Evans makes it, but other than that, this is my list.
I think we will keep Henne this year unless Brandon Allen blows him away in training camp. Allen is supposed to be a project next season.

My early guesses. I have 0% confidence in any of these:
Joeckel: If he loses the left tackle job to Beachum and if he doesn't win a starting job at guard and if Josh Wells or one of the UDFAs whips him up and down the block as the top backup at tackle, Dave might give up on him. But that's a lot of ifs. Henne: lol no not a chance, just throwing 02 a bone. Chris Smith, Ryan Davis, Abry Jones: The D-line is becoming a very crowded place, and my bet is that two of these guys aren't on the team on opening day. Alualu: I call his name every year, and every year he greets the turk with a new photo of Gus Bradley engaged in questionable activity with a Baskin Robbins ice cream cake. I don't see a spot for him on the roster with Marks, Odrick and Jackson, but, well, more on that in a second... Josh Evans: The nightmare is over. He's gone. He's finally gone. Dwayne Gratz: See Evans, Josh. Demetrius McCray: Farewell, we hardly knew ye. Hopefully you have enough sense not to knock the top scoop off of your next coach's cone. 24-of-38: A man can dream, right? I'd say it's 70-30 he keeps the job, but he'll have legit competition from 79-of-100 (the new kid, whose name I can't recall). ...and then there's that "more on that in a second": Marks. The Jaguars now have four guys--Jackson, Odrick, Alualu, Bennett and Day--who can do exactly what he does. They're all younger, and they're also not coming off of an injury-riddled season preceded by a torn ACL. I'm not rooting for him to get cut at all, but if the Jaguars decide that they need to shed a body or two from that group, the odds of Marks being one of them seem to be pretty high. Quote:My early guesses. I have 0% confidence in any of these: In fairness to Josh Evans he developed into solid depth and a good tackler. Quote:In fairness to Josh Evans he developed into solid depth and a good tackler.I have to agree that Evans is a pretty good tackler. But as a safety he has no ball skills Quote:I have to agree that Evans is a pretty good tackler. Yep he has nada, just noting he was decent last season compared to others. At RB - Denard, Grant. I think it'll be Gray, Ivory, Yeldon as locks. We usually keep 4 right? Both Grant and Denard are explosive, but have fumbling issues. Denard has proven to be useful on special teams though, while Grant hasnt. I think Grant is a goner. We have Banyard too, but I don't think he will make the roster.
OT - if Joeckel loses the competition, and they feel like he's too expensive to be a back up swing tackle, he could be a goner. I don't think his contract is expensive, though. Joeckel would be the only vet on the OL in trouble though. DL - Davis is our most experienced, versatile DL... I don't think he's in trouble. Alualu is though, with the addition of Day. We usually keep 10 DL so Fowler, Jackson, Marks, Odrick, Miller, Jones, Day, Ngakue, Bennett, and Davis. I think Alualu and Smith are gone. The rookie DE from Montana supposedly can play OTTO, so he might land there. This is going to be a really deep group though. I like Abry and Davis a lot, but if they get pushed off the roster, then that's a good thing. CB, I hope to god Gratz is pushed off the roster. With Ramsey, House, Prince, McCray, Marshall, and Colvin, Gratz shouldn't make the roster. At safety, Gipson is a lock. Sample should beat out Cyp, leaving Cyp to play special teams and/or back up Sample. Before Gipson, we had a bunch of strong safeties manning both safety spots. I think Evans is a decent back up at FS.

Quote:In fairness to Josh Evans he developed into solid depth and a good tackler.Yes, he's an excellent tackler, especially when the ball's still in the air.
Quote:McCray I mean anything is possible with hard work and great showing in PreSeason but if I had to guess Nick Marshall is on the practice squad at best. McCray should def be worried especially considering the UFA DBs signed and them actively looking. I think Gratz should be a little worried, but not as much as the other two mentioned above. I think all the Safetys on the roster with the exception of TaShaun should be worried as the Strong Safety job seems up for competition more than any other position on this team. I don't know about Tyson Alualu, sure he hasn't panned out for a 1st round prospect but he's been good enough for depth being able to play LE or DT.
Are we really ready to cut a guy with Grant's speed/explosiveness because of one fumble on a pitch with a defender right in his face?

Quote:Are we really ready to cut a guy with Grant's speed/explosiveness because of one fumble on a pitch with a defender right in his face? Corey Grant never played another down after Denard Robinson returned from a sprained MCL. That should tell you something about him.
Quote:Are we really ready to cut a guy with Grant's speed/explosiveness because of one fumble on a pitch with a defender right in his face? Before he signed with us as a UDFA, his knock was that he was an average football player at auburn, just had elite speed. Speed is nice, but if he can't hold onto the ball, he should head over to the CFL and dominate ala Chad Owens. He's just not reliable enough. I would be suprised if he made the roster.
