What is with the Jason Myers hate on this board?
|
There are more than a few calling for Myers replacement. Sure he missed a couple of big kicks but also he made a few big kicks.
Let's compare his rookie season to Scobee Scobee Rookie year: 24-31 77% with a long of 53 Myers Rookie year: 26-30 for 86% with a long of 58 The one knack on Myers is the pat's but they were moved back this year and scobee didn't have to deal with that. Explain to me the hate on Myers so I can see where some of you are coming from. ![]() We show less advertisements to registered users. Accounts are free; join today!
Scobee didn't cost us games his rookie year. Can the same be said for Myers?

I can get over the missed FGs but the Extra Points? Inexcusable. Caused us to flip the gameplan thus costing us a couple games
Did we bring in another kicker?

Quote:There are more than a few calling for Myers replacement. Sure he missed a couple of big kicks but also he made a few big kicks. It's understood by realistic fans that some kicks will get missed. His FG kicking was largely not the problem outside of him missing two shots at game winners in the first colts game, but I'll forgive him that, because of the team as a whole would start taking care of its own business then it wouldn't need the FG kicker to try to win the game against a team as bad as the colts, but I digress. The big problem with Myers is that he was far and away the worst kicker in the league when it comes to extra point kicking, and that's just not something you can have. Had he kicked his extra points through in the second tennessee game the Jaguars would have at least gone to overtime, the tennessee kicker didn't miss any of his extra points in the game, why should Jaguars fans settle for a guy that can't hit them on our team?
I'm on board with Jason Myers for 2 reasons:
1. If you consider his extra point tries as 33 yd FG attempts, add in the XPs of 32 for 39 to his 26 for 30 FG tries and his total becomes 58 for 69 or 84.1% with a long of 58 yards. Scobee : 24 for 31 or 77.4% with a long of 53 yards. All of Scobee's XP tries were from the 15 yard line, big deal. 2. Myers' blowing those XP's gave us Jalen Ramsey and a nice draft after that. Had he made the Indy kick, we would have picked somewhere around 15 instead of 6.
Season Ticket holder since 2004.

Because he was wildly inconsistent last year, and it was frustrating. From what I understand, he was average in college too. He's very replaceable.

He also won us the Baltimore game. We show less advertisements to registered users. Accounts are free; join today!
A lot of our fanbase thinks Scobee was worth a 5th round draft pick - lol.
Also, Scobee and MoJo didn't totally suck like most of our other players during a pathetic decade of Jag football so fans tend to migrate toward them. Quote:2. Jiminy freaking Cricket, do you pay attention to the things coming out of your brain, or do you just put it all on red and play the odds that something smart comes out? I'm condescending. That means I talk down to you.

I'm all for Myers stickin around if he continues to work through the kinks.
Quote:Bortles cost us a couple of games his rookie year too. You want to cut him? Because it's the exact same thing.

I think Meyers would be looked at more positively if 2014 were the first season they changed the PAT rule. He was the worst this year for sure, but I think that's exacerbated by the fact that this year was the rule change. Hopefully he's improved there. He needs to cut his misses on PATs by 66%
I was wrong about Trent Baalke.
