We can't just smash every team and not have to rely on our kicker for some points.

We relied on him plenty and he came through some times...

 

3/3 against the Jets

3/4 against Baltimore including the game winner.

4/4 against Tenn... We win.

4/4 against SD... Lost by 6 when the defense couldn't stop Rivers.

 

Yea he missed some XPs but the dude kicked pretty well on FGs. I'm not saying he's the best because he definitely is not but lets see what he's got next year.

I'm not sure if this is directly related but a kickers percentage, distance, accuracy stats don't mean nearly as much as "when those kicks were made".

Of course not. But let's not act like his position is set in stone. Did we forget that Caldwell brought in kickers mid season contemplating replacing him and brought in another UDFA this year to compete with him? He's going to have to show marked improvement if he plans on sticking.

If you could possibly overlook the PATs, his stats absolutely rocked for a rookie. The Colts game was a huge learning experience for the rookie and was unfortunate, and he had that one ugly shank from inside 30, but otherwise he rivaled some of the better kickers in the game. Of course you can't overlook the missed PATs, but you can expect that he's been concentrating on the 33-yard kicks so intently this offseason that they should be automatic for him next year. I can see Myers being a darn good kicker this year with one of the strongest legs in the league.


Having said all that, I don't believe he actually makes the roster because Oberkrom looks fantastic from what I've dug up on him so far.

Myers will have all off season to work on his PAT.  Im sure he never worked as much kicking from the 15 as he will this off season.  I think he will be fine.

making mistakes as a rookie is one thing... making the same mistakes repeatedly... which also cost us games... being done by someone who plays a  position in which they can easily be replaced... unforgiveable. If you don't cut riff-raff like that you will never develop as a professional team.

But the difference in wins this season will have nothing to do with Myers. It's Bortles taking the next step and the defense. If Myers can't kick this year, he gets replaced. Simple.

Guys who can kick 58 yard game winning field goals aren't easily replaced.

It seems that way.  Myers also hit a game winner.  86% for a 58 long as a rookie looks good to me.  I really dont' get the haters.

 

Beside the usual "He Sucks, He lost us games repeat answer)  He is was a rookie.  I will paraphrase Caldwell, If you have to count on rookies to win you games you are in trouble.
