I agree. The Jaguars at one point had a very strong opening day record, may still be over .500 even after the past several years of mediocrity. The heat and humidity factor vs a team like Green Bay alone can be huge, although I admit it's not in itself an answer as the Bills once demonstrated. But year with the defensive talent added to this roster and the Packers having no tape as to what they can expect, the Jaguars might be able to catch them off guard a bit. Meanwhile, this offense has the potential to be top five leaguewide, and the Packers defense over the past few years has been subpar. This is no automatic win for the Packers.

Yeah, idk about anyone else but I moved up to Michigan for a few years.. When I came down for the 1st time in late July to central Florida I literally felt like i was suffocating in humidity lol. It definitely has a factor and especially in the 2nd half it can wear even the home teams down here.

Absolutely.  I have previously argued I think the infusion of talent on the defensive side of the ball will make Bortles and the rest of the offense better.

 

Perhaps knowing the negative possibilities, he might be less inclined to force a pass downfield.  With the tighter coverage our corners can provide as compared to years past, Bortles might have to go further down the progressions and check down some.  Or against tighter coverage, he will have to be more accurate in practice to complete the same pass. 

 

Our receivers will have to work harder and more effectively to get open in practice than they had to in years past.   In terms of the quality of opponents, games should be relatively easier for them.

 

I was thrilled Gipson was signed by us.  This is one of the many reasons why.

I agree with this completely.

 

Not knocking the Packers at all, but I think a lot of the apprehension people have towards this game is based more upon lingering perceptions of both teams as opposed to the reality of the talent on the field.

 

We have five guys in the NFL's top 100 list.

 

Not many teams are going to match that.  I'm not sure Green Bay will match that this year.

On the Fowler front, in an interview yesterday on 1010XL, Sheldon Day was asked if there had been a moment yet where he realized how much better the talent was in the NFL compared to college. His response was witnessing Fowlers bend. He said something along the lines that it was freakish, and that he didn't think it was possible for a person to bend like Fowler does. I think Dante will have a bigger impact than expected this year, ending the year with double digit sacks.

Ballou mentioned today that there was a play where Fowler really blew him away. He said he stated on the edge and then they dropped him back and he picked up a slot receiver. He said the receiver went no where and Dante made an amazing play.

A 31 year old Jordy Nelson coming off ACL surgery doesn't scare me, and it shouldn scare you either. Davon House actually matches up well with a guy like Jordy, I'm more concerned with the Packers secondary options like Cobb, Janis, and even Jared Cook.

Good point, I think the Jags D (even without Colvin) match-up well with the Packers offense. Our D-line (especially the interior) should overwhelm the Packers interior O-line, they won't be able to run the ball which should make them one-dimensional. While some Jags fans are dreading it, I'm actually looking forward to our matchup with the Packers, I think we can beat them up on both sides of the ball setting a "tone" for the 2016 season.

Its mostly due to history not favoring guys with knee injuries. Most times despite seeming 100% guy coming off knee issues seem rusty. I expect he will be limited in the preseason due to caution but thats a big difference from week 1 opening day. Not really worried myself but i do understand some concerns. Especially if hes covering a quick twitch receiver like Cobb.

That, and maybe Buffalo coming down and destroying the Jags one season opener. Those same fans may also remember the inverse when the Jaguars went to the frozen tundra when it was truly frozen, and beat the Packers. Too much is made of game time temperature, in my opinion.

I agree with you completely about the overreliance on weather/temperature to beat teams.

 

I'd rather rely on the talent on our roster to do that.  Fortunately, we have enough talent to start to rely on it to win games.
