Copa América Copa América Copa América

I'd take the Olympic title over Copa simply due to the fact that the Olympics includes Europe.

Anytime you add Germany, Spain, Italy, England, Poland, and other teams to the mix I think bragging rights go up.

Soccer teams in Olympics usually don't feature their strongest squad.

Exactly. Olympic teams are only allowed to have 3 players that are 23 or older.

Yeah it was really fun. I enjoyed it more than I thought I would, even though I'm a little light on sleep at the moment.

Quote:What'd you think of the game/atmosphere?  It looked like a pretty good crowd from TV, and the atmosphere I'd imagine was a blast to be a part of.  Definitely an entertaining game.

It was awesome. There's nothing like rooting for a National team with 60,000 people. Everyone kinda descended into a certain area at around 2pm to start pre-gaming. At 5:30pm the American Outlaws led about a half mile long march from that area to Century Link, with some pretty impressive choreographed cheers. It took about 20 minutes of game time for the place to fill in, and the section behind the Ecuadorian goalie was nuts!

When we scored the second goal the whole place was going crazy. It also got really intense in the stadium when those red cards were pulled.

Good point, but quite a bit of those guys at that age end up seeing little to no international level when they are out of the U23's.

Yes, but at least the Olympics feature the best countries.  COPA only includes 5 of the top 12 ranked teams in the World.  I mean seriously, when the US can get to the Semis, how good is the competition.  Did I mention Peru made it to the semis the past 2 COPA tourneys.   Not actually an indication of a strong field.

Only 5 of the top twelve in the world huh? Wow, that is terrible....

Rankings in the soccer world are a bit of an illusion. Soccer is a game where a team who may not be ranked higher has a fairly good chance to get a result that will further them in a tournament (or in the rankings themselves). The EPL this season alone is a good example. The higher ranked teams are not heads and shoulder better than the teams ranked below them like they would be in football for example.

Usa getting abused by Messi and Argentina.

Bradley stinks. Is there anyone else on the team that makes 1 decent play a match but 5 horrible ones that Klinsmann would tolerate? Are we that thin at midfielder?

Clearly we were outclassed by a great team with the 4-0 drubbing… I just thought maybe, just maybe, we could at least play semi-competitively.

That was such a pathetic performance.

Couldn't even get the ball. US Midfield severely outclassed in this match, constantly giving the ball away with terrible/weak passing and idiotic turnovers.

And, I echo the sentiment of the above poster who mentioned Bradley. Almost every match, his passes are slow and weak, and he gives up a careless turnover on a regular basis.

Yes, sometimes he makes a very good play. But, more often he's completely careless.

What's with all the manual labor to clear the rain off the field for Columbia vs Chili?  They don't have machines for this?

Well we'll have to settle for a 4th place finish. Probably should have won but was extremely unlucky on a couple of occasions. Rooting for this team makes me feel bi-polar for some reason. Can't quite put my finger on why.....

Chile with the well deserved win.

Back to back champs is no easy task especially facing the powerhouse that is Argentina in both finals.

Could be out of protest against the Argentinian Football Association.

From what I hear, there's underlying corruption.

Undoubtedly there is corruption. The comparison is just too good to not mention it.

Wait a minute. You're telling me that a Central and/or South American organization has a corruption problem?!?! Why, that's unheard of!!!

I'm trying to make myself more informed and less opinionated.

Stop saying whatever stupid thing you're talking about and pay attention to all the interesting things I have to say!
