I am definitely in the "casual" gamer class. I enjoy playing games when I have the time. Maybe an hour or so at a time and trend towards games like DMC or the Arkham games. I picked up Dark Souls 2 on a recommendation and rage quite 2 hours in never to pick it up again.


I like story over gameplay so I gravitate towards the Telltale games as of late. I am terrible at shooters so I watch people play them on youtube because the best stories are in shooters.

I'm most definitely NOT a serious gamer. I view my video game time like TV time, so I follow you on being big on the story. To me, it's like watching a mini series, but u get to interact with it.


And I'll drop a game in a heartbeat if there's no storyline. Seems like a complete waste to me.

Sometimes I get a little jealous of people that put the time into exploring games like Skyrim, Fallout or even Dark Souls and consuming all of the lore. Very much like book reading I think. But then I just remember I can put on a youtube video and get the story while I am building my new workbench. 

 

The GF does enjoy the Telltale games. Speaking of which. Where the heck is Wolf Among Us season 2?!?!

I'll tell you what I really miss. A good old fashioned Konami 2D side scrolling Castlevania game. I can remember playing some of the older ones as a kid with my dad on the SNES. But Symphony of the Night is awesome. That's still an off and on game I'll play here and there on my PSP or Vita or even PS3. I'll tell you another thing I'd like to see Squarenix do too is bring back the Tactical Role Playing genre. I wore out Final Fantasy Tactics for years on various platforms. It's such a great game with a lot of depth. Disgaea is okay. It's just too heavy on the anime part and I didn't like it overall. And then the Advanced or A-2 versions that Squarenix rolled out were too kiddy and cartoony and weren't nearly as serious as Tactics was in the 90s. Tactics Ogre is solid. Fire Emblem is decent. But I'd love to see Squarenix play-off the War of the Lions in Ivalice history through a Tactics style game. They could do a prelude with Orlandu and Balbanes. Vagrant Story and Parasite Eve deserve reboots too.

I'm excited for Persona 5, No Man's Sky, Dragon Quest VII (3DS), Civilization V, Battlefield 1, and Yooka-Laylee.

Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night might fill that void for you. It looks promising.

I cannot consider myself a "serious" gamer, either, and I value storylines over mindless shoot em ups, etc.

 

It's not that a well made video game is not worth the time to immerse yourself in its world and achieve all of the objectives, it's that I don't have enough time to do so.

 

With that said, I would resume my Witcher 3 advocacy.

 

There are good story lines and side stories throughout.

I'll tell you what I really miss. A good old fashioned Konami 2D side scrolling Castlevania game. I can remember playing some of the older ones as a kid with my dad on the SNES. Another rocket league DLC would be nice. I like the souls series and am sick of video games holding my hand. I don't like constant videos to tell me the story I want to play the story. I really enjoyed Wolf Among Us, I'd love a follow up.  I'd also like to see a new Walking Dead (the original, not Michonne's spinoff.)

 

There's a Batman/Dark Knight coming soon that's getting excellent early reviews.
