Alton Sterling - merged

Clip from Snopes.

WHAT'S TRUE: Alton Sterling was a registered sex offender with a lengthy criminal record.

Wonder what kind of CDs he was selling. Shocker that he was involved with police and ended up getting shot.

Is this really shocking?

Quote:A threat? He had a right to be there! Louisiana is a concealed carry State. Did they ask if he had a license to carry a firearm? The only threat was those cops and they accomplished their goal..
In Louisiana you have a duty to make police aware you are armed upon contact. You also must surrender the weapon during questioning (LRS 40:1379.3,I (2)). Of course he was illegally carrying a firearm (LRS 14:95.1).

Of course not, cops kill people every day.

Quote:That's all he really has.  I've mentioned in several posts that I'm not making a blanket statement.
There are good law enforcement officers, and there are pigs.  All cops are not pigs.  I've said it like 3 times in this thread.  But FBT likes to create straw men and attack them...  It's his schtick.

Quote:Then first of all, based on this...  You are training people that go into the police force to be pigs
.  I'm sorry, but that's the bottom line.  To Stop Action based on your defending these pigs
means that the action to stop is the life of that "perp".  Point blank shot to the head, but you need 4 more shots to stop the action?????  Are you numb to reality???

JIB, you're a rare breed.  What's best is that you are also a minority breed that is being left behind as rationality is finally gaining ground again.

If putting 5 or 6 shots point blank is justifiable in your mind, you are advocating a pig force
, not a peacekeeping force.  I'm not down with that.

With all due respect to you and the pigs
that are trained this way.  It's not 'murica to have officers that kill first and then worry about their paid admin leave...  Sorry bro.  But you're on the wrong side of this.

With all due respect to you.  And no respect due to the PIGS

It sure looks like a blanket statement to me.

Regarding your last comment, consider me one of the "pigs" that you reference, even though it's been almost 30 years since I wore the badge.

Totally justified to unload on a guy laying on the gound. We need many more extra-judicial killings to Make America Great Again!

Quote:Did you even watch the video? He was absolutely resisting, even when he had the two cops on him. As someone has already pointed out, they tried to taze him twice. I seriously doubt these cops were looking to kill anyone. To suggest otherwise is just plain ignorance. If you actually watched the video you could clearly see his right arm was not contained. The gun was in his right pocket.

He could have avoided this all together by simply not illegally carrying a gun, not using that gun to threaten someone in the parking lot, and by complying with the orders of the cops and not resisting. He made a series of bad decisions, and it cost him his life.
Has it been confirmed it was him that threatened someone with his gun? The shop keeper said it wasn't him last I heard.

Way to dramatize my point! Unlike some who just spout off opinion, I was providing fact in the form of statue that spells out the long list of events in the chain that could have possibly prevented this all together.

Difficulty: the other thread shows that compliance doesn't work either.

There is difficulty in that not every situation is identical. Hopefully clarification is forth coming and if there is negligence, then there is proper conviction.

Haha! That's so funny, the first time I heard that I laughed so hard I fell off my dinosaur

Was it the shop keeper that was threatened with a gun or somebody else?

It was a homeless guy who approached him for money more than once from what I understand.  At some point, the guy pulled the gun to scare the person off.  That prompted the 911 call.

The guy laying on the ground was resisting arrest, had taken two hits from a taser and didn't go down, and was continuing to struggle with police once he was on the ground.  The officers did not have him fully contained, and they knew he was armed.  This was not some poor victim who was shot for no reason.    Every decision he made from the moment he put that gun in his pocket and headed out to the store determined his fate.

Im black.

I have been falsely arrested because I was black (my opinion) I was falsely charged a felony (not my opinion case was thrown out) because I was black (my opinion). I am especially sensitive to potential prejudice or violence against people who look like me.

That said if you resist arrest and have a gun I can't help you. Black white red yellow.

A few years ago, I went into a store I frequent. A gentlemen I know well was working at the counter. His hand was hurt. I asked him how he hurt his hand. He wouldn't tell me. After I checked out I pulled him to the side and told him I was curious. His response... "I hit a cop" why? Because he was on a street corner smoking a jay and a cop was walking around the corner. His rationale? He didn't want to go to jail. Black white red or yellow some people don't want to see orange.

Quote:Why didnt he just comply with the officers? Plain and simple.
Because the second society blindly complies with unlawful orders and doesn't stop to question why they're being harassed is the second we trade in our flags for our stars.

Right or wrong, there are citizens of this country who do not assume they will be treated fairly when complying with a police officer's commands.

Right or wrong there are also citizens of this country who think that law enforcement officers are "pigs" and are immediately wrong before the actual evidence comes out.  It goes both ways.

Did I trigger you? Big Grin

When there's overwhelming evidence right off the bat, yeah, those guilty of murder are pigs, particularly if they do it under the protection of a badge that gives them, as far is the law is concerned, the right to shoot without being shot back at.

That appears to be changing somewhat.
