Why is Jason Myers still here? How inept is this franchise?

Checking his past posts.......

I think that poster is Scobee....or a troll.

4 out of 5 posts, pretty sporadically since last season, are just hatin' on Jason posts.

Does he mention golf at all? That would confirm it.

I concur with your sentiment.

Myers missed XPs hurt, any missed kick hurts... but like with Bortles' INTs, it was about timing of those misses that really hurt.

Yep.

Myers isn't the greatest kicker (yet), but it was his rookie year and he did fine percentage-wise. He has a very strong leg. The extra point misses were disappointing, but he'll have a lot more practice going into the season.

Three less points by the opposition in any of those games would have made poorly-timed misses immaterial. The Jags gave up 448 points last year. If they had given up 3 less per game, that would have put them at an even 400, which would have tied the 23rd ranked Lions. That's not too much to expect this year.

Quote:6 extra points?! What an inept franchise. Khan could give a crap about winning with Myers and Gus here. He should be running a circus, not an NFL franchise.

Yes he was/is. Complainers got to complain...

There's a case to be made that his performance in the Colts game was far from 'fine'. I wouldn't be that desperate to get rid of him right now, either, and the haters are ridiculous. But don't pretend the extra points were the only problem he had all season either.

The extra points and his performance in the first Colts game were by far his main problems. Outside of that Colts game, and outside of extra points, his FGs stack up with some of the league's better kickers. His only other struggle was the occasional kickoff out of bounds.

That said, I'm not totally exonerating him. That Colts game was as bad a game as I've ever seen a Kicker have, and so were his extra points. Sure it didn't help that they moved it back to 33-yards wherein all but a few kickers missed at least one extra point, but he had a knack for remaining the worst in this department even when a few others were trying their best to catch up. I hope he's been focusing on these 33-yarders all offseason.

If it weren't for Myers we wouldn't have Ramsey.

OR Jack. And for that, I love him.

With that said he missed a 63 yarder at camp today.

Meh. I just want to see how those extra point kicks are going..

Quote:I agree he was terrible at PATs but he was money on FGs with the exception of the 1st Indy game.

26/30, including 2 game winners isn't too shabby. That 58 yarder vs miami was an absolute bomb and we ended up needing those 3 points to win.

55 touch backs on 84 kickoffs doesn't sound too bad. I don't know at what rate the elite kickers get touchbacks, but 66% doesn't seem horrible to me.

We may actually have something with Myers. And if he keeps missing PATs, then we get rid of him. No big deal.

As was the 53 yarder Vs Ravens...

Coaches don't cut players who make mistakes unless they also lack talent. Myers is on the team because Dave and the coaching staff think he has a lot of talent and they think last year's mistakes are fixable. I don't see why that's so hard to understand. If they cut guys for making mistakes, Bortles would have been cut after his rookie season.

He made a 58 against Miami as well. 58 wasn't for the win though.

He should just be practicing extra point accuracy. Hopefully he'll be doing a lot of those this year.

No pain, no gain.

I hope he becomes an asset.  Right now he's about right in the middle of both an asset and a liability.

Not bad for an undrafted guy who spent a year in arena football, I suppose.

It will be interesting to watch this kicker battle (who knew there was going to be one?) during pre season.
