Suspension/Bans

So what I gather, I can say words in Spanish on here that wouldn't be blocked, even if they are derogatory or considered "profanity".  Would I get a warning for that?

Nothing like rules for one group of people that don't apply to another group of people.

It's also about practicality, common sense, and how far down the rabbit hole do you wish to go?

Quote:However, this board is based and run in Jacksonville, Fl. U.S.A. correct? I wonder what percentage of people that participate on the message board happen to live here? The other thing to look at and take into consideration is that if a rule is in place and justified as this being a "family friendly" message board, it should apply to all topics, not just select topics such as profanity or "veiled profanity".

The other thing that should be considered is the worldwide visitors that come here. The same rules that apply to us should apply to them as well.

Heck, "profanity" is being used in this very thread right now. Our Euro friends are using it freely and from looking it up myself it basically means something that rhymes with hunt or ditch when referring to a woman in a vulgar way [BAD WORD REMOVED]. You have a mod/admin just letting it go that is European while knowing what it means.

So here is a question. Since the filter didn't pick that up as a bad word, do our Euro friends (including our foreign Admin) get a warning or do they get a pass?
Arn't you the guy who is extremely anti-PC?

The word has very little to do with women actually, its the same as calling someone an idiot or a fool. For instance teachers in secondary schools regularly say it to students or write it after poor test results.

I think he's trying to volunteer to be the new word filter translator guy.

Again, common sense.

It's what the "REPORT" button is for.  The filter is, was, never will be, and is not intended to be something all-encompassing - whether in English or any other language.

It's just an aid tool.  Not Pokemon.

Well it's about principle as well.  Me personally, I really don't care what someone has to say or how they say it.  My point is that the rules should apply to everyone.  In the case of this very thread, a member got a warning and/or suspension for breaking a rule.  The fact of the matter is that the justification for the rule is only applied in certain cases.  The justification is that this is a "family friendly" message board, yet as I outlined before there is discussion (openly) about using an illegal substance by not only members, but mod/admins as well.  How is that "family friendly"?

The discussion then focuses on the profanity filters and/or the "veiled profanity" rule.  A term is thrown around not only by our foreign members, but the foreign mod/admin as well.  A simple google search of the term brings up exactly what the "meaning" of it is which is a derogatory term.  It would be considered "profanity" in our version of the English language, yet it's not filtered and the use doesn't draw a "warning".

I could use terms in a different language that mean something derogatory, yet literally they translate to something that wouldn't be.  This is supposed to be a "family friendly" message board, but the term "family friendly" seems to be very selective and subjective.  You can't use a common term that describes flatulence, but you can use a term that is derogatory towards women as long as it's in a different language.

It depends on the translation.  Look at my above post.  The word that I posted has several meanings.  Google it then ask your Hispanic friends, especially those that are of Mexican decent what the word means.  Just because a word means something to a person in the U.S. doesn't mean that it means the same to a person in another part of the world.  The same could be said vice-versa.  Take for instance the word "boot".  In the U.S. it would mean footwear but in much of the U.K. it would mean the trunk of a car.

My point is that dialog and speech is pretty much censored on this board based on somebody's opinion on what is acceptable and "family friendly", yet speech from others is freely allowed that might not be necessarily "family friendly".

If there is a rule, then enforce it.

Quote:I know this will fall on some deaf ears, but the moderators question some of the words in the filter list, too.

I've been around long enough to remember when the word "sprinkles" was actually one of the words in the filter list.

I know it sounds crazy but it's true.

Now we can just "sprinkle" away all we want to, since it is no longer in the filter list.

I wonder whose idea it was to filter that word?

There's another definition of the word "boot", too.

This is a stupid [BLEEP] conversation. Just say what you mean and to hell with the damn warnings.

Never thought you were. Don't even know why you brought that up in this thread.

Sooo i guess this is officially a warning free thread! Lol... I can see jagibelieve point...

I didnt recieve a warning but a suspension for 3 days for using the kicker name as a Pun... But their are discussions about doing illegal drugs and etc... Funny thing is its by mods.. And profanity is allowed if its in another language or if the tree isnt heard as Pirkster would put it? Im just trying to understand...Its sounded like a double standard to me tho..

Since you can't see anyone else's warning levels but your own and we don't talk about a any members warnings with anyone other than them, you wouldnt know who received a warning or not. I can tell you, there have been warnings issued in this thread though.
What in the Wide Wide World of Sports is agoin' on here???

Are we finished? Do we all feel better now? Sheesh, you people should hear yourselves.

Bunnie has spoken and says there have been warnings issued in this thread, although she did not say whether suspensions were issued or not.

I guess I need to be careful because I am about due for a warning myself.

Suspensions are based on individual warning levels.

Warning #1: no suspension #2: 48 hrs #3: one week #4: one month and #5 indefinite.

So it just depends on what your level is when you receive a warning.
