Should we sign Karlos Williams

#21

If we're interested, why not just claim him?

Quote:Sign him. Try to motivate him to get in shape over the next 5 weeks. If the running game is clicking without him, and nobody is injured, you can cut bait once his suspension is up. In the meantime you have an insurance policy of sorts that doesn't count against the roster.

Am I missing something here? Seems like a no brainer.

You hit the nail on the head with this post.

You're literally getting Karlos Williams for free until his suspension is up. You may as well gamble on him since there is obvious talent there if he does pan out.

My guess is that we're not interested in him right now, but only if he gets his act together. Another possibility is that we'd rather sign him to the vet minimum than inherit his contract if we claimed him.

With out assistance of our existing FSU players, they may be able to whip him into shape (pun intended)

So apparently the Jags brought in Karlos Williams for a workout yesterday.

Interesting.

No offense to her, but not sure I am buying this.

The Jets had a visit with Karlos Williams today.   Remaining in the AFC East could be appealing to him:

Jets would make sense. I think Washington would as well.

Agreed,  providing Karlos Williams is willing to commit to getting into much better condition immediately.   If he's not in much better shape by the time his suspension ends,  then he wouldn't be worth putting on the 53 man roster.

I think there is zero chance they sign him. Why sign a suspended player at a position that we are finally now strong at?

I never heard of Lauren Brooks. Are you sure she is a credible reporter?

So what she is saying is that a source close to Karlos Williams told a local Jacksonville reporter that the Jaguars were the team most interested in Karlos Williams.

That sounds like spin to me- trying to create a market for the guy.

Personally, in my opinion, since the guy is reportedly 30 pounds over his playing weight, and is facing a 4 game suspension, we will pass.  No way I would sign him.   Waaaaay too many red flags there.

The only benefit is he wouldn't be on the actual roster for 4 weeks. And he's a better 3rd Rb than DRob.

yeah even if he is suspended, that doesn't matter if you think he has some long term upside.

you can sign him to a no guarantee contract.

he has the 4 weeks of being suspended to show you he means business - meaning he loses weight and gets into playing shape.

after that, you got yourself a nice RB.

Yup. I wouldn't be surprised if they went either way on him. If he does come in and gets in shape, we'd be like the Chiefs. Obviously no replacement for Charles, but waves of capable rbs

I'd take his upside over Corey Grant in the blink of an eye.

I say bring him in for a workout. He could easily be our 3rd string running back, if in shape. However, I would wonder what kind of a training camp he is having, with the Bills so quick to jettison him. I read that he was gaining weight when he should have been losing weight. If he has any urgency to play in the NFL again, he will get back in shape, and be a good addition to our team.
